August 21, 2020 - Montenegrin sailing now has another ambassador, who will most likely be among the top ranked in Europe and the world for the Laser class in years to come. His name is Nikola Golubović, a 15 year-old who these days is among the best European competitors in the Laser 4.7 class, with an excellent performance in Vilamoura, where he managed to place in the gold group among 107 competitors. The competition lasts until Friday, and Nikola's coach, Ilko Klakor, hopes that Nikola will be among the 20 best in Europe.
The current champion of the Balkans and Montenegro, Nikola Golubović, managed to take the 35th place during the three qualifying days, achieving his primary goal and, together with 54 other sailors, continued the fight in the gold group for the best ranking in Europe.
"He is a competitor with an exceptional character, a guy who has been dedicated to sailing since early childhood. We saw best what talent he had last year in Tivat when Nikola managed to overcome rivals from 12 Balkan countries and take the podium without major competition," head coach of the Delfin Sailing Club, Ilija Ilko Klakor, proudly points out.
"Nikola achieved our primary goal at the European Championships - he managed to place in the gold group and continue in the competition, which is a great success for a young sailor whose time is yet to come. I have every reason to believe that in the coming days, he will be able to improve his ranking and become one of the top 20 European sailors in the Laser 4.7 class," says Klakor from Vilamoura.
"All national teams in the strongest lineup come to the European and world championships because these are the most important regattas of the year. Nikola Golubović is competing with the best-ranked names from the EURILCA rankings. Initially, over 400 sailors registered for the competition. That number was halved due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and about 100 male and about 80 female competitors finally gathered in Portugal. So, our Nikola has ahieved notable success among the best," explains Klakor, who has been working as the head coach of the most trophy-winning Montenegrin sailing club for years.
Although Nikola's competitors have had an advantage because, unlike competitors from Montenegro, they have had freedom of movement and this season already have several big competitions behind them, Klakor believes that the hopes for success he has for his young competitor are not unrealistic.
The first day in the gold group brought unstable conditions on the regatta field, and Nikola showed character. After a bad race in the first regatta, he managed to take 16th place in the second, and ended the day 35th. He has two more days, four more regattas ahead of him, and enough opportunities to break close to the European top in the powerful competition.
For a young competitor who has gained most of his sailing experience in the Bay of Kotor's peaceful waters, sailing conditions are an additional challenge. According to Ilko Klakor, the conditions are very dynamic. The wind is constantly changing direction from 30 to 40 degrees, which is exciting for observers, but very demanding for competitors, says Klakor.
Golubović won the ninth and 12th place in the competition of 107 sailors from Europe on the first day, added the third place and one penalty on the second day, which was deleted as the weakest result, while on the third day he did not do well on the required regatta field and ended at 39th place, so dropped from 14th place to 35th.
The European Championship in the Laser 4.7 class continues tomorrow. Currently, Premislav Mahovski from Poland is in first place, second is Jason Kefalonitis from Greece, and Marcos Altariba from Spain is in third.

August 19, 2020 - Hotel group Casa del Mare and Michelin-starred chef Eros Picco have presented a multi-year project for the pop-up restaurant Casa Epico. From August 14 to 16 at the Casa del Mare Mediterraneo in Kamenari, visitors had the opportunity to discover excellent dishes that combine the best of their two brands and the Mediterranean in the Boka way.
The home of Mediterranean flavors Casa Epico is planned for next year as a pop-up restaurant running for several weeks. The presentation of the concept was made over three promotional evenings where Eros and Casa del Mare chefs prepared the best Mediterranean recipes using local ingredients. In search of the best groceries, they visited a large number of rural households and farms.
"From the day Eros came, until the very beginning of the promotional evenings, we did not stop looking for Montenegro's best. Everything that was prepared that evening was fresh - nothing was frozen, nothing was imported. It required a lot of dedication and effort, but the satisfaction was tremendous. We wanted to show Casa Epico magic, and judging by the reactions of visitors, we succeeded in that," said Casa del Mare's Director of marketing and sales Milena Milić.
The Casa del Mare and Eros Picco team visited the Sikimić household in the village of Žlijebi, the Moric household in Luštica, the Savina winery, the shellfish farm in Kamenari, and Njeguši, Vrbanj and Grahovo.
"I was especially fascinated by the diversity in such a small area, the meeting of different climates, which allows you to have the highest quality ingredients that grow in your natural environment. It is impressive that in such a small geographical area, you have geographic and climatic conditions for drying prosciutto, growing olives, but also potatoes. The Mediterranean and mountain climate intertwine in this place, and it is something that left a powerful impression on me," said chef Eros Picco.
Casa Epico combines typical local flavors and fresh local ingredients with Mediterranean flavors, using the most modern and very best processing and preparation techniques.
The project was supported by the National Tourist Organization and the local Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi.

August 19, 2020 - The laboratories of the Institute of Public Health have completed PCR analysis of 570 samples for the new coronavirus, among which 42 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been detected. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Montenegro is currently 967.

Air traffic with Belgrade has been re-established
The first Air Serbia plane from Belgrade with around twenty passengers on board landed at Podgorica airport this morning.
The Director of Airports of Montenegro, Danilo Orlandić, when speaking on Colors of the Morning on Vijesti Television, said that this week there will be eight flights from Podgorica and Tivat to Belgrade and that this number will be significantly higher next week.
He also mentioned that a new route Tivat - Niš will be opened on August 21.

August 18, 2020 - The Association of Comic Book Lovers "Herceg Novi Strip Festival" (HSF) will participate in this year's program "Open Kotor Squares," organized by the Municipality of Kotor. An exhibition of original HSF posters with motifs of Herceg Novi and Boka, which are the work of previous HSF's special guests, will be held at Cinema Square on Friday, August 21 from 09:00 to 11:30.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a comics workshop led by the Director of the Association, artist and comic artist, Nikola Ćurčin. Along with this announcement, the HSF also confirms the arrival of the Croatian artist Esad Ribić - another special guest of the 14th Herceg Novi Comic Festival, which will be held from September 4 to 9 at several locations in Herceg Novi. The beginning of the school year, on the recommendation of the Institute of Public Health, has been postponed to October 1 due to the health authorities' assessment that the regular start of the school year, for which the education system was ready, carries a risk to children's health. The epidemiological situation is under control, but still complicated, the Ministry of Education said.
"The decision on postponement applies to schools and kindergartens. In the coming days, the Institute of Public Health and representatives of the education system will define clear recommendations, on the basis of which full explanations will be given in due time on how classes in schools and kindergartens will be organized," the Ministry stated.
They add that while educational work remains suspended, the previously determined measure on a paid leave of absence for one parent of any child under 11 will be applied.
This decision, which, as they explain, was made exclusively to protect children's health, was preceded by a consultation with representatives of all relevant institutions: the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Public Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and the Institute for Education.
Mugoša: Possible abolition of tests for citizens of Serbia
The Director of the Institute for Public Health, Boban Mugoša, also announced the abolition of tests upon entry to Montenegro, if the health situation in Serbia continues to improve.
He mentioned again on N1 television that for Serbian citizens to enter Montenegro, a negative PCR or Elisa test is required.
"We do everything to make guests safe and feel good here," he pointed out and added that they expect those who come to respect epidemiological measures," Nova.rs reports.
"The situation in Montenegro is stable. In the last ten days, we have had an average of about fifty cases a day, which is not small, but we have not seen an increase, and we expect this trend to start declining. In any case, we are taking all possible measures to ensure that the economy survives, that is to say that no further tough decisions have to be made. In the first COVID-19 wave, we had very restrictive rules, and we quickly managed to reach the status of a corona-free country. However, this infection cannot be eradicated without solving it on a global level, " said Mugoša for N1.
Air Serbia flights on the Nis-Tivat route from August 23
Serbian national airline Air Serbia will restart flights from Nis to Tivat on August 23, it was announced on the company's website.
Flights will be available from Nis airport "Constantine the Great" to Tivat twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays. A one-way ticket on the route for a flight on August 23 costs about 42 euros.
Flights from Nis to Tivat were introduced on July 15 last year, as one of 12 destinations to which Air Serbia planes operate with state subsidies.
The flights were suspended in the second half of March this year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

August 18, 2020 - A group of 83 NGOs from Montenegro, the region, and the world asked the President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, and the future Parliament and Government of Montenegro to immediately stop the development of the military range in Sinjajevina and leave the area available to livestock farmers for agricultural and tourism development.
"Civil society organizations have supported the residents of Sinjajevina and surrounding villages and towns and expressed concern over the militarization of the second-largest pasture in Europe. According to the Montenegrin National Strategy and Biodiversity Action Plan, Sinjajevina was the subject of accession negotiations with the European Union (EU). It should have been declared a regional nature park before the end of 2020. It has been, as they recall, registered as an Important Plant Area (IPA) since 2016 and proposed as an area of bird protection and an area of particular interest for the conservation of the EMERALD network, a status which Sinjajevina would acquire after Montenegro accedes to the EU," the Civic Initiative Let's Save Sinjajevina announced.
They recall that Sinjajevina is a part of the UNESCO Tara Biosphere Reserve and borders the Durmitor National Park, one of the oldest in the Balkans. In September 2019, the Government "ignored a legitimately and legally voted petition of more than 3,000 citizens opposing opening a military training ground on over 7,500 hectares in the heart of the mountain." The same year Montenegrin, American, Austrian, Slovenian, and Italian troops participated in NATO's first international military training, "using over half a tonne of explosives, while the local population was present with its herds on the mountain."
The joint statement points out that the military training ground endangers at least 25,000 families on the slopes of Sinjajevina, but also the preservation of biological diversity and the local ecosystem. They point out that no assessments of the impact of the military range on the environment have been made, as well as any medical and socio-economic consequences of the creation of the army range on the mountain.
"We call on the President of Montenegro, Mr. Milo Djukanovic, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the President of the Parliament and the Government of Montenegro to immediately stop the militarization of the territory of Sinjajevina and make an independent environmental and citizen impact assessment, including health, social and economic aspects. They must ensure the participation of citizens in the decision-making process on how Sinjajevina is to be used. We seek the protection of traditional lifestyles and ecosystems following Chapter 27 on EU accession. Steps should be made to begin implementing European environmental standards defined in the Green New Agreement for Europe and relevant EU directives (EIA Directive 85/337 / EEC) as well as the statement of the UN Aarhus Convention. We call for the involvement of Sinjajevina local communities in political processes, whenever decisions affect them," stated 83 NGOs, adding that local communities should play a crucial role in determining the use of space, as announced from the Civic Initiative Let's Save Sinjajevina.
ICCA Consortium spokesman Marco Basi, a member of the Council responsible for Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, and anthropology professor at the University of Palermo in Italy, said areas like Sinjajevina are not just neutral, geographical or productive land, but "territory of life." He pointed out that the management of Sinjajevina is based on ancient institutions such as the Katun and the choir leading to the roots of Montenegro and their identity.
"The recognition of Sinjajevina as a biosphere reserve of the UNESCO Tara canyon, the presence of Natura 2000 sites and European Union studies to turn it into a regional park, speak of the ability of local communities to use these areas in harmony with nature, turning Sinjajevina into an area of global heritage.
"It can be a moment to choose peace, demilitarization and de-escalation of the conflict," said Basi, who pledged the ICCA consortium's support in fighting to protect Sinjajevina using the experience of Italy, which protected the Katun way of life by law.
His colleague Joam Evans shared, as announced from the GI Let's Save Sinjajevina, his experiences and the struggle of his community against mining in Spain. He stated that their struggle for land has been going on for decades, but that they manage to resist "the attacks of an industry that wants to destroy the whole community's life."
"That is why we stand by Sinjajevina and support your fight to protect your mountain. The voice of the locals must not be ignored, they must know what is planned for their country, and no actions can be taken against their will," he pointed out.
On behalf of Land Rights Now, Sabine Palace expressed solidarity with the traditional communities of Sinjajevina and supported the untouched nature of the mountain. She stated that in many countries, land protection is crucial in the fight against poverty, hunger and climate change.
"The right to land is also a human rights issue, especially where indigenous peoples and local communities have ruled the land for centuries. Land rights are part of protecting the diversity of life, culture, and language whose beauty and meaning they attach to our lives. Saving Sinjajevina is an occasion "for all of us, not just the citizens of Montenegro. What is at stake here is the unique biodiversity and natural beauty that should concern everyone," she said.
The Director of the Environmental Movement Ozone and the representative of the Coalition for Sustainable Development (KOR), Aleksandar Perović, called on the future Government of Montenegro to deviate from previous practices, and repeal the decision to declare Sinjajevina a military training ground. He stated that the next Government would have a partner for environmental issues in the KOR and expect to be respected since that has not been the case thus far.
"If the ignorant attitude towards the civil initiative for the protection of Sinjajevina continues, we tell the new Government that we will use all civil resistance mechanisms to protect the public interest. And that is to put Sinjajevina under the appropriate level of national and international protection," said Perovic.
The representative of the Civic Initiative Let's Save Sinjajevina, Milan Sekulović, pointed out that preserving Sinjajevina is a matter of respecting the protection of human rights. He highlighted that the Civic Initiative Save Sinjajevina remains consistent in their request to repeal the decision to declare Sinjajevina a military training ground, and insists on the intention to protect the area by declaring it a regional nature park developing agriculture and tourism.

August 17, 2020 - Since the last section, the Institute of Public Health has completed PCR analysis of 301 samples for the new coronavirus, among which 50 newly positive COVID-19 cases were detected. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Montenegro is currently 1,019.
Most new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Podgorica (16) and Bijelo Polje (13). Other new coronavirus cases come from Niksic 7, Budva 6, Pljevlja 4, Bar 2, Cetinje 1, Kolasin 1.
Three new deaths have been reported to the Institute in patients from Nikšić, born in 1941, 1929 and 1955, all treated at the General Hospital in Nikšić. The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of June is 71. Since the beginning of the first wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, 80.
In the last 24 hours, recovery of 76 patients was reported. Since the beginning of the year, the number of registered cases of infection with the new coronavirus is 4085.
Montenegro ranks third in the number of active COVID-19 cases in the region
In the region, the largest number of active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants is registered in Kosovo, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Montenegro.
In Kosovo, 206 active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants have been registered, in BiH 176, and Montenegro 162.
In North Macedonia, 141 active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants have been registered, in Albania 120, in Croatia 30 and Slovenia 12 infections have been registered per 100 thousand inhabitants.
After three days of publishing data on the number of active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, Serbia is not now publishing figures. Therefore, the review for the number of active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the region does not present the number of active cases in Serbia.
A total of 830 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the region today, which is the lowest since June 27.
New counter- COVID-19 measures from the National Coordinating Body for Infectious Diseases
The National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases (NKT) has stated that in recent days, cases of illegal private celebrations in restaurants and on beaches without adherence to epidemiological measures have been recorded, violations primarily relating to the number of persons allowed to gather and non-compliance with physical distance.
The Directorate for Inspection Affairs and other competent bodies from the state and local level will, in case of recurrence of such gatherings, close facilities and file criminal and misdemeanor charges against the organizers, i.e., owners or tenants of these catering facilities, issuing them with a ban.
Preparations intensify for the beginning of the school year
The Institute of Public Health and the Ministry of Education were recommended to follow the conclusion from last week's session and intensify preparations for the beginning of the school year, as well as ensuring the regular working of preschool institutions in adequate time and in a way to enable students to attend classes regularly.
Border crossing Metaljka fully open, sanitary inspections also organized at night for traffic crossings
The NKT has decided to reopen the Metaljka border crossing with Bosnia and Herzegovina on the road Pljevlja - Čajniče also for passengers into Montenegro. Passengers will be allowed to use this border crossing from 7 am to 7 pm while passengers will leave Montenegro without restrictions.

The NKT has provided an opportunity for the State Election Commission to accredit, following its procedures, media representatives from countries whose residents are not allowed to enter Montenegro.
Conditions stipulate that media representatives from countries whose residents are not allowed to enter Montenegro have a negative PCR test result for a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) issued by a registered laboratory and not older than 72 hours at the time of entry into Montenegro.
NKT accuses Serbian Orthodox Church of negatively influencing the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic
Illegal public gatherings organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church are the biggest threat to the health and lives of all citizens, the National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases (NKT) assessed today.
The NKT stated that the epidemiological situation in the country has stabilised.
"Public gatherings organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church and certain political actors directly contribute to the growth of the number of infected and endanger the health and lives of people who participate in these gatherings, their families, and all citizens." The organizers of these illicit gatherings bear direct responsibility for the health and lives of Montenegro and foreigners in our country. There is not and must not be a policy that can be an obstacle to citizens' health and life. The risk of these illicit and dangerous gatherings is all the greater because the illnesses of those infected at unlawful meetings these days will manifest during the election process, which carries certain risks in case of non-compliance with the prescribed measures for all participants," stated the NKT.
With its today's unjustified and ruthless attack on the Church, the National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases has left the last remnants of its reputation in tatters, reads the reaction of the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral to the accusations of the NKT.
"If the NKT, now fully politicized, had in mind the events that have taken place in recent weeks, as a reflection to the discriminatory and shameful Law on Freedom of Religion, then the institutions of the Serbian Orthodox Church should not be addressed here," said the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral.
They added that the resistance to lawlessness, which the NKT wholeheartedly supports, is organized by the citizens. "When church bodies organize something - it is known to the whole public. Given that this is not the case here, we can only say that you have deceived the public by telling this untruth," it concludes in response to the NKT's accusations.

August 16, 2020 - The Institute of Public Health has completed PCR analysis of 483 samples for the new coronavirus, among which 75 new cases of COVID-19 infection were discovered. There are currently 1,048 active cases of coronavirus in Montenegro.
The highest number of new infections is from Nikšić, standing at 24, while 19 cases were registered in Podgorica. The rest are from the following municipalities:
Berane 11, Bijelo Polje 7, Rozaje 5, Ulcinj 3, Danilovgrad 3, Budva 2, Plav 1.
Two deaths were reported in patients from Pljevlja and Berane, born in 1984 and 1947, and treated at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. Among the deceased is a nurse from the General Hospital in Pljevlja.
About ten days ago, after a positive coronavirus test, the nurse in question was transferred to the hospital in Brezovik. After her condition worsened, she was transported to the Clinical Center, where she died this morning, the second death among health workers in Pljevlja as a result of COVID-19.
Aeroflot Russian Airlines to restore flights from September 1
The Director of Airports of Montenegro, Danilo Orlandić, said that Russian Aeroflot would start flying to Montenegro on September 1.
"Today we have received announcements that Aeroflot will start flying to Montenegro from September 1. I believe that it will indeed be the case," said Orlandić on the morning program of TVCG.

In that case, the public will be at the lowest risk of the epidemic spreading, said the Director of the Health Center Podgorica, Nebojsa Kavaric.
"On election day itself, with the application of all measures prescribed by the National Coordination Body (NKT), and implemented by the State Election Commission (SEC), the public will be at the minimum risk, as throughout August. Of course, this scenario stands only if the trend of stabilization and reduction of new infections continues," said Kavarić, reports the RTCG portal.
He said earlier today that the current epidemiological picture in Montenegro shows signs of stabilization and reflects the responsibility and discipline shown by the public. Still, it is also being undermined by the irresponsible behavior of some individuals and non-compliance with measures.

Montenegro Airlines will fly to Serbia again on August 19
After the National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases has opened Montenegro's borders for the citizens of Serbia and surrounding countries, Montenegro Airlines (MA) will resume its airlines with Serbia, starting from August 19, said representatives of the company.
A more favorable epidemiological situation in Montenegro and the region has allowed the opening of borders to regional countries and obliged the Montenegrin carrier to emphasize once again its social importance.
MA will therefore be ensuring passengers are able to come to Montenegro two times a week, from Belgrade to Podgorica and Tivat.
"MA will provide very affordable ticket prices ranging from € 109 to € 119 with all taxes included. The national air carrier will make flights safe and continue to contribute to the protection of health," MA representatives said.
Aeroflot Russian Airlines: Connection with Tivat is suspended until August 21
The official office of Aeroflot in Belgrade denied the information released by Montenegrin media two days ago that the company Aeroflot has canceled all Tivat flights for 2020.
Media have stated that "this" would destroy tourism. However, a representative of the Russian air carrier, Mr. Vladislav Mordvinov, said in an exclusive statement for Balkanist that flights to Belgrade and Tivat had been canceled until August 21.
"Aeroflot plans to begin flying again as soon as it is allowed. I am unable to provide you with any more details on the winter schedule because it has not yet been formalized, but currently, we plan to re-start flights," Mr. Mordvinov said.
Montenegro announced the opening of borders to Russians on August 4.

"On this day, both Orthodox and Catholics come to Our Lady of the Rocks, jointly celebrating the Mother of God, the mother of Christ and all Christians, who unites and connects us. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is especially celebrated here on the island. It is the pearl of the Bay of Kotor, "floating," a unique pinakothek on the Adriatic that sends a beautiful message. Our ancestors had a firm hope that with their efforts on the artificial island after two hundred years, a beautiful church would grow to connect and unite people from all over the world. This church primarily connects, through coexistence, Catholics and Orthodox believers in the Bay of Kotor, and Montenegro," the manager of Our Lady of the Rocks, don Srecko Majic, said to Boka News.
In the morning, bells from numerous churches in the Bay of Kotor announced the feast of the Assumption. It is celebrated with Holy Mass also on the Jesuit Island of Our Lady of Mercy, the Bay of Tivat, and in the Benedictine monastery of Our Lady of Ratac, Bar.
