September 11, 2020 - Air Serbia has announced that it will introduce three additional return flights between Belgrade and Tivat by September 18 due to significant passenger interest.

A certain number of existing flights by the national airline of Serbia will continue to run, as announced today, with a different, larger-capacity aircraft, so that during the coming week, the total passenger capacity on the route will increase by 33 percent, to about 5,000 seats.

Air Serbia re-established air traffic with Montenegro, after a temporary suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, on August 19, with flights from the Serbian capital to Tivat and Podgorica.

June 19, 2020 - There is no feedback for now on when Montenegro Airlines planes will be allowed to land at the airport in Belgrade again, the national airline claims in a statement for CdM.

Namely, on May 26, the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Serbia passed a measure banning the landing of Montenegro Airlines planes at Belgrade's "Nikola Tesla" Airport.

Montenegro Airlines emphasizes that intensive communication is taking place between the competent institutions to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

"As has been said many times, the epidemiological situation dictates the situation, and MA is ready to resume traffic as soon as the conditions are created," the national airline states.

They note that this is a route that is extremely important for MA.

"It is also crucial for Air Serbia. And they, just like us, are interested in resuming flying. In this situation, we are suffering significant damage together, which is seriously increasing every day because we are now entering the period of the most intensive traffic we have been waiting for all year long. We are unable to have any influence beyond the fact that we have offered the right travel conditions, lower fares, joint offers with hotels and agencies, prepared planes, and crews. We are waiting for the situation to improve," MA said in a statement for CdM.

While waiting for a solution to Belgrade's situation, the national airline is operating on routes to several European destinations:

• LJUBLJANA
The first flight to Ljubljana took place on June 12, and Montenegro Airlines will be flying to the capital of Slovenia on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

• FRANKFURT
Flights will run regularly on Wednesdays and Sundays; the service to/from Frankfurt was re-established on June 14.

• VIENNA
Flights to/from Vienna resumed on June 15, and the national airline will be offering this destination on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

• ZURICH
The first post-epidemic flight to Zurich took place on June 17, and passengers can use this route on Wednesdays and Sundays.

• DÜSSELDORF
Flights to/from Dusseldorf start on June 20, and will be offered on Saturdays.

• COPENHAGEN
Flights to/from Copenhagen will be re-introduced on June 20. The next flight to this destination is planned for June 27, after which Montenegro Airlines will be assuring the route twice a week: on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

• MUNICH
The first flight to Munich will take place on June 21, and for this month a service will be provided once a week, on Sundays.

• HANOVER
Flights to Hanover with Montenegro Airlines will be re-established on June 21. Flights will be offered on Sundays.

"We expect to establish regular traffic to other destinations, as well as gradual normalization by the end of the month, all in line with an improvement in the number of Covid-19 patients in these countries, as well as travel restrictions," the national airline said on its website.

Airports of Montenegro is welcoming yet another German Airline.

Well-known company Condor Airlines will once again fly to Montenegro after a hiatus of several years, confirms the management of Airports of Montenegro.

Condor will begin the seasonal route Frankfurt-Tivat as of 1st May next year.

The German airline will fly an A320 once a week, on a Friday, until the end of the IATA summer season on 23rd October. Between 26th May and 13th October, there will be an additional weekly Tuesday flight.

Condor until recently was part of the now-bankrupt international tourist giant Thomas Cook. However the German airline, specialising in tourist flights, survived the collapse of its parent company, securing the necessary fresh capital and continuing its operations with support from the  Berlin government. Condor Flugdienst Gmbh began operating in 1955, and currently has a fleet of 42 aircraft and approximately 4,900 employees. The company operated seasonal flights to Tivat at the end of the 1980s, and briefly returned to Tivat Airport in summer 2013.

This year also saw regular seasonal flights to Tivat from Frankfurt, Munich, and Dusseldorf operated by German national carrier Lufthansa and its low-cost subsidiary Eurowings, as well as from Leipzig, Munich and Hanover with Montenegrin national carrier Montenegro Airlines. This testifies that the German market, the most significant inbound market globally, has shown a substantial increase in interest in Montenegro and what it has to offer to tourists.

According to unofficial reports, the management of Airports of Montenegro is working intensively to establish a year-round flight connection between Podgorica and Zagreb and is currently in negotiations with airlines on the issue.

November 5, 2019 - The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro, NTO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, local tourism organizations and tourism industry, is going to present the Montenegrin tourism offer at the 40th World Travel Market (WTM) taking place in London from 4 to 6 November 2019.

The Montenegrin delegation is headed by the Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Mr Pavle Radulović, State Secretary in the area of tourism, Mr Damir Davidović, and Director of the NTO of Montenegro, Ms Željka Radak Kukavičić.

In order to promote the destination and establish new business connections with renowned tourist journalists from this market, the NTO of MNE organized the participation of the Montenegrin delegation at the prestigious event called ‘The BGTW Annual Gala Awards Dinner’.

On the first day of WTM, Minister Radulović met with Mr Steve Heapy, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ chief executive. Both sides were considering possibilities for collaboration, having in mind that this tour operator has already included MNE in its catalogs and the fact it used to bring passengers to our country over the airport in Dubrovnik. Moreover, this company plans to introduce 4 flights over the course of the week to Tivat, of which two will be from London and two from Manchester from May to October.

Jet2.com is the UK’s third-largest airline, while Jet2.holidays is the second-biggest UK operator.

The World Travel Market in London is one of the leading global events for the travel industry where all sectors of the tourism industry are presenting their offer, including travel organizations, airlines, hotels and hotel companies, travel agencies and tour operators, PR houses, etc.

This world’s most significant travel market brings together around 5,000 exhibitors from over 180 countries, over 50,000 tourism professionals and about 3,000 media representatives.

November 30, 2018 - More new flights to Montenegro as Lufthansa announce new services to Tivat from both Munich and Frankfurt, starting in April 2019.

It is the season of announcements of new flights to Montenegro, and, as recently reported by ExYuAviation, Lufthansa is entering the Montenegrin market from April to October next year, with two key connections to Tivat, from both Frankfurt and Munich.

All flights will be operated by Airbus A319 with 138 seats. Timings are carefully chosen to allow excellent connections within Europe as well to selected intercontinental destinations.

The move by Lufthansa has been under discussion for several months, as previously reported by TMN, and it can be seen as a first step into a potentially lucrative market, but one with several unknowns. The goal is to build on this initial first step and ultimately to turn the routes into year-round connections, which would increase the attractiveness and accessibility of Montenegro in the winter months, as well as providing additional choice for luxury guests of places such as the Chedi Lustica Bay and Porto Montenegro. Speaking about the potential arrival of Lufthansa earlier this year, Danilo Orlandic, Head of the Airports of Montenegro, said:

"Lufthansa, as one of the most important carriers in Europe and the world, should be our partner. The German market is extremely important for our tourism industry. Furthermore, German airports have excellent worldwide connectivity, so the launch of new routes to this market is vital for the public."
