The local administration reminds the public that the wildfires which spread across the municipality for more than two months last year did the most significant damage in Luštica peninsula in history. More substantial material damage has been avoided, and there were no human casualties due to the superhuman efforts of the Protection and Rescue Service of Herceg Novi, the assistance of firefighter squads from other municipalities and government, and the selfless and courageous support of a large number of volunteers and locals.
Taking all this into consideration, the Herceg Novi Municipality, the Protection and Rescue Service, and the locals united in the idea to set up a Volunteer Firefighter Squad in Luštica.
In order to respond to the upcoming challenges and reduce the risks, Luštica needs this team. Now, when the Squad of twenty volunteer members gathers, they will need resources for professional training of personnel, procurement of personal and collective equipment, adequate specialized fleet, as well as offices for the Fire Department. Part of this has already been provided thanks to the Municipality and certain local businesspeople, but some items are still missing.
On June 7, the Municipality has announced a Fundraising event at Žanjica, which aims to raise funds for the additional equipment of the Luštica Firefighters Squad. They invite all those who can support the work of DVD Luštica, to attend a donor dinner at the restaurant "Porto," from 5 pm.
This is the second volunteer firefighting company that Herceg Novi has received in just a year. In January this year, DVD Bijela was also established.
