One of the frustrations of being a blogger in the modern era is that the phrase 'a picture is worth a thousand words' has never been more true. Why waste time wading through all those paragraphs when a spectacular photo can produce the same effect, if not an even better impression.

The rise of social media and video channels, such as YouTube and Vimeo, has changed the way destinations are promoted. Now everyone with a camera has the same platform as official bodies, and while there are some truly horrendous self-made videos uploaded to the Internet, there is also an increasingly high number of quality additions, adding aspects of the tourism experience, which do not make it into the official tourist office videos.
