Thanks to the cooperation of the Municipality of Herceg Novi and the Embassy of Finland, the Jubilee 50th Mimoza Festival will be richer for the exhibition of innovative design, where design solutions will be presented - from every day to highly scientific-technological innovations. This arrangement was agreed during the visit of the Ambassador of Finland headquartered in Belgrade, HE Perti Ikonen.
As stated in the Press Service, the President of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Stevan Katić and associates discussed the idea of connecting the Herceg Novi and Helsinki Street Art Festival.
Katić expressed his satisfaction with the increased inflow of Finnish tourists. From January to August this year, Herceg Novi saw over 800 Finnish tourists, who realized over 4000 overnight stays in hotels. The guest of the September Street Art Festival was the Finnish artist Sini Kunnas.
In cooperation with the Municipality, the Tourism Organization and Herceg Fest, Herceg Novi also hosts the Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival, founded by the Finnish mezzo-soprano Katherine Haata.
Ambassador Ikonen has confirmed that this is not the first time he is staying in Herceg Novi. He likes both the city and Herceg Novi’s hinterland - mountain biking is his hobby, and Orjen Massif is a chance that he doesn’t want to miss.
As agreed at the meeting, an exhibition of innovative design will open in March 2019, and after the end of the Mimoza Festival, the Design Solution Exhibition will be moved to Bar, Cetinje and Podgorica.
Ambassador Ikonen was also interested in the situation in Montenegro and the relationship between "opposition" cities and state authorities. The leadership of the Municipality of Herceg Novi instructed him to continually violate the European Charter on Local Self-Government by introducing and using centralization mechanisms, bringing local self-government to a subordinate position - in specific cases, very late or completely absent responses and responses from the competent ministries.
“Obstructions make work more difficult, but it will not hurt Herceg Novi and its citizens in creating a better and functional community, opening new and developing the existing economic and cultural potentials of our city”, concluded Katić.
