12 October 2018 - The exhibition "Old Photographs of Herceg Novi", which was prepared by Miodrag Gabo Golubin, was opened at the Park Hall and this event, at the same time, marked the start of this year's programme of October Days.
Visitors can see 22 photographs from the Laforesta Photo Collection that cover the period from 1922 to 1936, the Grand Prix diploma that Felix Laforest won in Paris in 1932, the glass sheets from which the photographs were made, and the appliances that the family used.
The exhibition was opened by Herceg Novi's Deputy Mayor Danijela Đurović, who pointed out that this exhibition reveals the magic of Herceg Novi from the past century.
"The photographs in front of us are a testimony of one time, a great fortune left by the most productive photo studio in the Bay of Boka - the studio Laforest. They are a document, an art, and a feeling. The gifted eye fished the details from Igalo to Kamenar and saved the story of Herceg Novi, its areas and its people. A story that awakens nostalgia and emotions, revives the streets, but also warns of the traditional Mediterranean. The Laforest family is a pioneer of photographic art and the beginner of the tradition that has been followed by talented people of Herceg Novi for decades. Among the founders of the Swimming Water Polo Club Jadran and the firefighter's association, the most famous bottle lights are also authors of some of the first postcards from Herceg Novi. The multiple traces left in our community live today, which is additionally confirmed, among other things, by this exhibition," said Đurović, who thanked Golubin for carefully preserving the valuable collection of Atelier Laforest and the things she shared with the citizens.
Miodrag Gabo Golubin held many exhibitions, but this one is the richest of all of them. He adds that there are still about 40,000 negatives on films but also several thousand records of various formats and that everything should be transferred to digital record and prepared for a new exhibition which will take place in the future.
"There are even short film inserts that I gave for digitization. A short film about the Laforest family is being prepared in Spain. Their successors want to sell part of the Atelier while leaving another part of the facility for the organization of thematic exhibitions," note Golubin.
The exhibition will be open for the next 15 days.
