18 August 2018 - After several days of activities cleaning and arranging the road to Orjensko Sedlo, the state of the road is reported to be in much better condition.
Employees of the Oriental Development and Protection Agency of Herceg Novi removed the rock mass from the road that threatened the possibility of passage and safety, performed cutting and mowing on the worst parts, but also removed the dry logs that fell on the road. Dried trees, which were hit by a devastating forest fire ten years ago, were removed because their demolition could endanger both passers-by and communication.
The Agency points out that they have done a lot of useful work because tree trunks were used to arrange the rest areas on the road extensions. In this way, the first three decorated landscape viewpoints have been made and equipped with massive wooden benches that fully fit into the ambient which further enhances it.
About thirty visitors can already have their vacation in these locations. Munika is a very resistant tree, so the benches should be in use for a long period of time without additional protective coatings that will certainly be placed in the continuation of the works.
The first use of new resorts will be carried out already on Sunday, during the realization of the promotional event "Mountain Biking Day on the Orjen".
The Agency did all works of regulation and cleaning in cooperation with the Municipal Secretariat for Communal Activities, Ecology and Energy Efficiency and the Utility-Housing Company. A significant contribution to the efficient work was given by the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi with the donation of necessary equipment - clothing and footwear adapted for movement and use in mountain conditions, as well as chainsaws.
The macadam road Vrbanj – Orjensko sedlo – Crkvica has been operating by the Austro-Hungarian for more than 100 years, the Agency recalls. This architectural masterpiece, no matter how resilient it is, is nowadays worn out to a great extent. Therefore, the road requires additional attention and a new, well-thought-out valorisation. It is a chance to get, not only a necessary security corridor in the case of urgent interventions but also a tourist attraction.
