19 July, 2018 - The reconstruction of the Cetinje-Njeguši road was completed after two years, as announced by the Government of Montenegro. The length of the road is 16 kilometers and the total value of the works was estimated at 9.5 million EUR.
Aleksandar Bogdanović, the former first man of the town of Cetinje, previously said that it was the biggest project of reconstruction of the main or regional road in Montenegro.
"By reconstructing this road, we will ensure a more dynamic development of Njeguši, valorisation of the very generous agricultural potential of the Katunska Nahija, as well as the fact that we will create conditions for creating new values, and therefore new jobs in this region," Bogdanović stressed last year.
Director of Traffic Directorate Savo Parača said that the reconstruction is shortened by three and a half kilometres and that it is nearly seven meters wide, which allows a much faster and safer traffic connection between Cetinje and Njeguši.
Njeguši is a village located in Cetinje, in the area covered by the Lovćen Mountain. It is famous because it was the birthplace of the Petrović dynasty, which ruled Montenegro from the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th. Also, Njeguši has been the Montenegrin office of the “serdar” and “guvernadur”, which are types of army roles in old Montenegro. It is recognized as the home of Montenegrin national cuisine for its Njeguški cheese, Njeguški prosciutto and Njeguški steak, which is solely made in Montenegro. Njeguši once used to be the centre of the Katunska nahija, a tribe specific to Montenegrin culture. According to the latest data, Njeguši is the permanent home of 35 inhabitants.
The road is a great opportunity to promote Montenegrin tourism and the village of Njeguši since now, the journey from Cetinje to Njeguši takes only 15 minutes.
