June 9, 2018 - Although rain is common in Montenegro in the winter, bad weather may unexpectedly hit in the middle of your summer vacation. While it is mostly nothing to worry about as the rain usually ends quickly (just have another cup of coffee), but on a day like today when a sky isn't looking too promising, what should you do? Here are some ideas.

  1. SPA day

You may prefer to do treatments yourself with your favorite background music, but a vacation is a perfect time to let somebody take care of you. There are different salons around the cities, however, I recommend visiting a SPA center where you can have a swim, sauna, massage, facial, and mani-pedi, as long as you enjoy pampering. The most popular SPA centers in Montenegro are:

Banya Wellness & SPA the Capital Plaza, Podgorica

Verde Wellness & SPA hotel Verde, Podgorica

Splendid SPA hotel Splendid, Becici, Budva

Regent SPA Regent hotel, Tivat

La Roche SPA boutique hotel la Roche, Tivat

Kalamper SPA & Wellness Kalamper hotel, Dobra Voda, Bar

Bianca Resort & SPA  Kolasin

  1. Wining & Dining

Today, we mostly eating in a rush rarely enjoy the taste. Bad weather is the perfect time for a degustation of local cuisine traditions. Montenegro is great for wine tours and rural slow food experiences. Visit the wineries of Herceg Novi or the Skadar lake region, enjoy indigenous wine sorts accompanied by homemade cheese, olive, and ham. Or get a table at the fish restaurant like konoba Bokeski Gusti in Prcanj and ask for the catch of the day.

If you’re staying in an apartment with an appropriate kitchen, check the weather forecast and plan a new cooking experience on a rainy day. Get all the local ingredients at the farmer’s market in advance and use some of TMN traditional recipes to discover the true Montenegrin flavors.

  1. Museums & Galleries

This is probably the most obvious way to spend time on a rainy day, but be ready for a very short visit – there are no British museums and Prada galleries in Montenegro. Don’t hesitate to combine several indoor places of interest in a one day tour, take a car and explore the cultural heritage of Montenegro.

      4. TUK TUK tour

A newly offered type of tours in the Boka Bay is with the modern eco TUK TUK vehicles, yet another option for a bad weather day. The vehicles are equipped with headphones, rain covers and seat heating, so the tourists can travel comfortably even in the rain. You can get more information about Montenegrin TUK TUK here.

      5.Yoga / Pilates / Workout

When on vacation, your sports routine is not as regular as its meant to be, but the rain is a great motivator. Get to your hotel gym or spread out a yoga mat in your room, or even try a new class at one of the sports centers such as Capital Plaza Fitness Center in Podgorica or PMYC Sports Club in Tivat. Concerning the latter, there is also an indoor tennis court option.

  1. Movie or Concert

You won’t feel guilty watching the latest blockbuster or a comedy on a rainy day. There are three modern cinemas in the country that play movies in their original language with Serbian subtitles. Cineplexx in the Delta City shopping mall in Podgorica, Cadmus Cineplex in the TQ Plaza shopping mall in Budva and 3D cinema in the Tivat Cultural Center are great options. The last one is perfect for those traveling with kids because it's focused on animated movies.

The summertime is also the peak season for musical events in Montenegro. Though many of them are organized as open-air festivals, there are still many concerts performed in the cultural centers of Herceg Novi and Tivat as well as the Hard Rock café in Podgorica and the bars of Budva and Bar. Check the street posters and events in your area on Facebook. Must-see events include the Made in New York Jazz program on June 16 and 17 and the Mediterranean Notes festival planned for the end of the month.

  1. Get cozy in bed

Sleeping in or having an afternoon nap is a priceless luxury for themost of us. The pleasant background noise of the falling rain is a lovely lullaby for our stressed bodies and weary nerves. Get some rest without feeling guilty. Or grab your hubby and keep each other company. What can be more fun on a rainy day?

  1. Relax

Meditate, read a book, watch the rain with a cup of herbal tea, listen to music you love or discover new melodies, dream, make notes and sketches, or prepare for the next day: do some trip planning and back up your photos.

  1. Ignore the rain

If it is not storming outside (then you’ll see an orange or red warning flag), take a walk along the crowd-free beach and swim - the sea gets actually gets warmer during the rain.

  1. Travel

Due to its complexed natural landscape, the weather in Montenegro may vary drastically in its different regions. So, rain in the Boka Bay doesn’t necessarily mean you'll have it at Kolasin national park or on the Ulcinj sandy beach. Get in the car and explore the blue-skied parts of the country.
