This job can be an excellent source of additional money for permanently employed people who have free time, for people in retirement or even students. The Ministry of sustainable development and tourism explained how to get a license which, from 1998, 1.364 licenses were issued, among which some foreigners fulfilled the same conditions as the domestic guides.
“The need for tour guides in Montenegro is higher than ever,” said the chief of the department for regulations in the Ministry, Bozo Vucekovic.
The tour guide is the person who, according to a defined program, guides, demonstrates, and professionally explains the natural beauties and rarities, cultural – historic monuments, art, ethnographic and other sights, historic events and legends about those events and personalities, economic and political events as well as certain places and areas; is registered in the Central registry of companies as an entrepreneur unless he is employed in a touristic agency (employment can be temporary and occasionally per the Law on labor).
“For organized groups of five or more tourists/hikers, at certain touristic locations there is a special regime which includes the obligatory service of a tour guide for their tour. The Ministry of sustainable development and tourism approved a Regulatory on touristic locations where there is a special regime for a tour guide’s job, by which it is arranged that the touristic locations are places where touristic guides can only perform the job of the touristic guide, with the license issued by the Ministry, and this is the resolution on the fulfilment of conditions for receipt of the legitimation which confirms this qualification. It has to be worn in a visible place during the provision of the services”, said Vucekovic pointing out that not behaving under this regulation can see a fine of 200 till 2000 euros.
