Yacht Club Porto Montenegro from Tivat hosts the final race of the European Match Race Tour - a great duel sailing scheduled for September 13-16. The 2018 Grand Final – recognized by World Sailing as a Grade 2 event – will take place in Tivat, Porto Montenegro, one of the most stunning places on the Adriatic coast providing five-star sailing facilities along with an experienced event management team headed by Jenny Puddock.
Starting on Friday with a Round Robin, the event will enter the playoffs with a Repecharge on Saturday before reaching the climax with the semi-finals and finals on Sunday when the new European Tour champion will be crowned.
The European Match Race Tour, which consisted of seven stations and a grand finale, is the Match Race format created for the promotion of duel sailing, and affirmation of sailors of younger generations in order to compete and progress worldwide.
"Yacht Club Porto Montenegro has been selected as an EMRT station and a regatta host for its excellence and perfection in the organization of the regatta, especially when it comes to duel sailing, excellent facilities and sailing conditions in the Tivat bay, which I enjoy with great pleasure every year," said Neven Baran, one of the founders and organizers of the European Match Race.
"This is the first year we have a Grand Finale - we will have six teams competing to win the Match Race Tour. Teams will use our sailing boat type J70. They are coming from France, Slovenia, Austria, Poland and Croatia,” explained Jenny Putock, the Yacht Club Porto Montenegro manager. She pointed out that such events have the goal of promoting Montenegro as an extremely attractive destination, not only during the summer season.
