June 7, 2018 - YC Cavtat and YC Jugole Grakalić from Herceg Novi, and the Konavle and Herceg Novi municipalities, organize the second edition of the South Adriatic Regatta, which connects Cavtat and Herceg Novi with sails. The party is scheduled for this Saturday, June 9, with the start planned from Cavtat at 9 am. The time limit for entering the Skver port is 20 hours. After cocktails for the participants and the winners of the 2nd South Adriatic Regatta, JK Jugole Grakalić will commemorate 70 years of existence and work with a special ceremony.
In addition to the Thousand Island Regatta, which will sail on the Rijeka-Tivat-Rijeka route, the South Adriatic Regatta is another event that links the Montenegrin and Croatian coast, which is attractive to tourists.
At 25 nautical miles, the bidding takes place under the World Sailing 2017-2010 rules, with the additions of the national federations of the two states, which have listed this race in their calendars for the year. According to Predrag Peco Vukčević, president of YC Jugole Grakalić, the regatta is of great interest, and apart from Montenegrins and Croatians, it is also expected that the sailors will participate in regatta boats under the flags of Serbia, Slovenia, and Italy.
"There is a great interest of foreigner ships in the Montenegrin marinas to join our regatta to start the sailing season. This route is really very attractive and it is a pleasure for sailors. The great contribution is also the hospitality and excellent reception of our partners from YC Cavtat, who organize cocktail parties and socializing for all participants before the regatta. What kind of party we are about to enjoy, you can talk to last year's participants coming from Montenegro to Cavtat. Impressions from the party in the neighborhood are also an obligation not to miss our goal. And we are not. And we will not, even this year," says President YC Jugole Grakalić Peco Vukčević, who is also the President of the Montenegrin Sailing Federation.
"In our sport, as you know, everything depends on the wind. We hope that Saturday will be a condition for us to depart from Cavtat at 9 am. If this is not possible, the starting line will be moved to the open sea. The 25-mile route can be exciting and short, if the conditions are on our side, or could it demanding and long-lasting if we do not have luck with the wind. If the wind is in the right direction, it can be swift. We will have certain checkpoints on which we will monitor the time of each ship so that in the event of a lack of wind, the results would have to be the target," Vukčević explained.
In addition to clubs and municipalities, the organization of the regatta was assisted by the Konavle Tourist Board, the Port Authority of Dubrovnik- Neretva County, the Herceg Novi Tourist Board and the Port of Škver Management Agency.
"And the upcoming celebration will be an opportunity for our hosts and guests to come closer to our story. To hear and feel the story of 70 years of YC Jugole Grakalić, but also the story of sailing in Boka. This is not just sport for us. Sailing is a way of life for us; sailing clubs are venues for meeting and socializing, transferring the art of sailing to us is the vow of ancestors, and sailing is linked to our culture - the culture and the art of living like the Bokelian man. We will not reveal too much detail now. I can tell you that a short movie will be screened, there will be music and companionship. Our efforts to tell the story of sailing in Boka will be helped by the representatives of our brothers by the wind, and other sailing clubs in Boka Bay. Come on Saturday to enjoy the sea feast together, " Peco said and invited all to come to Skver on Saturday evening.
