When taking into account the number of players playing abroad relating to the number of residents, only two countries have over 100 players abroad - Iceland and Montenegro. Icelanders have 180, while Montenegro has 134 players.
All countries in the Balkan region are at the top of this list. Croatia is third in front of Slovenia, Serbia, BiH, and Macedonia.
"This research is a reflection of the brilliant training skills in this area as well as the existence of a good international network for transfers," says CIES, the Institute for Football Observations.
