The president of the European Committee Jean-Claude Juncker has stated in Sofia that the EU remains devoted to the European perception for the West Balkans.
“I want to say what I have told my friends during my visit to the region: that the EU remains devoted to the European perspective for West-Balkan countries," communicated Juncker after a meeting with states’ presidents, i.e., “the West-Balkan's six governmental leaders”.
At the press conference with the presence of all the participants, Juncker stated that, during his visit to the region, he has been assured that “all West-Balkan partners share the same values”.
He pointed out that all regional countries have made “enormous improvements” by which he was “impressed”, but nevertheless all criteria and conditions for the membership have still not been completed by any of them.
Participants of the meeting were prime ministers of Albania, Montenegro and Macedonia Edi Rama, Dusko Markovic and Zoran Zaev, presidents of Serbia and Kosovo Aleksandar Vucic and Hasim Taci, as well as chairman of the presidential board of Bosnia and Hercegovina Dragan Covic.
At this meeting which marked the finish of Juncker’s several-day tour in the region, he explained in detail the Strategy of the EU for the West-Balkans. The representative of the European Union for foreign and safety politics Federica Mogerini was present, as well as the commissioner for growth Johannes Han, while the chairman was Bojsko Borisov, prime minister of Bulgaria who has the role of presiding the EU.
