In Sofia on March 1, 2018, during a working lunch hosted by the Vice President of the Bulgarian government Bojko Borisov for the six leaders of the West-Balkans, the prime minister Dusko Markovic emphasized the importance of infrastructural and economic connections in the region and good neighboring relations.
The meeting was held as the finishing point during the West-Balkan tour made by Jean-Claude Juncker to promote the strategy of the European Committee for the West Balkans.
Both Borisov, on behalf of the country leading the EU Council and Juncker have assessed that the messages of the Union included in the Strategy are well-received in the region and pointed out that they represent a sign for a long-term commitment of EU to the region and its European future.
“In the discussion held there were statements of West Balkans’ countries individual progress in the process of integration, which is the valid principle affirmed in the Strategy and the methods how to best use time before important events such as the EU-ZB summit, both from the region’s and EU’s side”, announced the Government.
“In that aim, further steps were agreed in the realization of the liabilities within the programs for connections, especially infrastructure projects, as well as the regional economic area.
“In this sense, the Adriatic-Ionian corridor is given full potential in the context of Montenegro as part of integration in the European systems”, stated the Government.
Markovic highlighted the importance of infrastructural and economic links in the region and good neighboring relations as a priority which will lead Montenegro in evolving the regional plan, with fulfillment of the overall agendas for reforms and economy in its process of joining.
