The chief negotiator had meetings with the deputy general manager of the EU at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fabrizio Bucci, Italy's special envoy for Brexit Marco Peronacci and the secretary general of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, the Gianni Castellaneta. Participants of the meeting besides the Chief Negotiator, as reported by the Ministry, argued that Montenegro's good achievements in all areas of accession negotiations are the basis for accelerating its path towards the EU.
"The chief negotiator stressed that, given the current challenges the EU is facing, for the future of the EU and the stability of the continent, it is very important to show that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is certain," the ministry said.
He also stressed the importance of evaluating the individual achievements of each of the candidate countries and in that context, pointing to Montenegro's readiness to open the remaining two as well as to close several negotiating chapters.
"Based on the good results, Montenegro, as a leader in the process of European integration, deserves adequate support in order to speed up accession negotiations," said Drljević.
