19 October 2018 - Representatives of the Government of Montenegro recently noted that generating unjustified costs coming as a result of the irresponsibility of local governments and their businesses needs to be stopped, as this endangers the sustainability of the state budget.

"We will especially monitor the reports on the funds allocated on every basis, which falls under the remit of budgetary and inspection bodies," said Prime Minister Marković at a meeting with heads of the Department of Public Revenues, Customs Administration and the Inspection Directorate, Miomir Mugoša, Vladan Joković and Alija Košuta

During the tourist season, the Inspection Directorate issued nearly 8,000 misdemeanor warrants (7,908) in the period from 11 June to 31 August, thus imposing fines totaling 2,762,274 EUR. The largest number of misdemeanor warrants were issued in the municipality of Budva - 2.077, amounting to 774,134 EUR.

It was noted that the competent services have taken adequate measures to suppress the gray economy and that the trend of increasing the collection of revenues is good. The meeting stressed that, in addition to the strengthening of control and additional measures, the regular consultations with the Prime Minister greatly contributed to this result. It was concluded that the only exceptions are local governments.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović, and ministers of economy and finance, Dragica Sekulić and Darko Radunovć.
