16 October 2018 - Montenegro expects continued German support for reforms on its road to the European Union, especially when it comes to negotiating areas in which additional efforts are needed in the upcoming period, it was estimated at the meeting of Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević and Ambassador of Germany to Montenegro Robert Heinrich Weber.
Drljević stressed that the priority of the Montenegrin administration is to fulfill obligations under chapters 23 and 24.
"We expect to step into the new phase of negotiations soon and get final benchmarks for these two chapters. To this end, we are committed to achieving results on the ground, especially in the field of the fight against organised crime and corruption," the Chief Negotiator said, expressing the expectation that Germany will recognise Montenegro's efforts in this field.
The Chief Negotiator informed the Ambassador of Montenegro's readiness to open chapter 27 by the end of the year, stating that he hopes that Germany, as well as other EU member states, will recognise and value the results achieved.
Ambassador Weber said that Montenegro could count on German support, recalling the good cooperation that has been achieved so far through the TAIEX.
"Montenegro is recognised as the leader of European integration in the Western Balkans and the country that successfully implements the reforms," Weber said. He pointed to the importance of EU presence in this region in order to work with the countries of the Western Balkans to overcome the current challenges.
