24 September 2018 - Montenegro highly appreciates Romania's long-standing friendship and counts on its support during the upcoming Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January next year, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin said at a meeting with the Minister of Justice of Romania, Tudorel Toader, who is currently on an official visit to Montenegro.

DPM Pažin emphasised that Montenegrin priorities are to open negotiations in the remaining two chapters – Chapter 8: Competition policy and Chapter 27: Environment, as well as to intensify activities aimed at closing the negotiation chapters. In fact, Montenegrin representatives believe that the country is ready to close two chapters and that it will soon complete all internal procedures and be ready to close six more negotiating chapters.

However, the real purpose of the European integration process is to build institutions that provide equal rights and opportunities for all citizens and a reliable legal system for the business community, and those are the goals that Montenegro will strive to achieve.

In this context, DPM Pažin expressed his gratitude for Romania's expert support in several areas, which contributed to strengthening the  Montenegrin legal framework.
