14 September 2018 - During his stay in Rome, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović had separate meetings with Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See's Secretariat of State, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, and the Grand Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Albrecht Freiherr von Boeselager.
Minister Darmanović and Monsignor Gallagher pointed out the significance of the resident representation of the Holy See in Montenegro, and confirmed the opening of the Apostolic Nunciature in the foreseeable future. They announced the appointment of the chargé d’affaires that would represent the Holly See in Montenegro until the appointment of the Apostolic Nuncio, which is another confirmation of close and friendly relations.
The Minister informed Monsignor Gallagher about Montenegro's results in the negotiation process with the EU, as well as the position of our country as a NATO member. They also exchanged views on current developments in the region.
During the talks with the Grand Chancellor Boeselager, it was pointed out that the relations of Montenegro and the Sovereign Order of Malta are characterised by an intense and constructive dialogue, with a willingness to further strengthen relations.
The meeting also discussed the current challenges of migration, as well as the constructive role of Montenegro in the region.
During his visit to Rome, Minister Darmanović and President of the Community of Sant'Egidio, Marco Impagliazzo, signed the Agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the Community of Sant'Egidio. On this occasion, Minister Darmanović assessed that the Agreement represents an important framework for joint humanitarian cooperation and cultural inter religious dialogue. The Government of Montenegro will facilitate and support, within its capabilities, the Community of Sant'Egidio, for the sake of peace and solidarity, Foreign Minister said.
Marco Impagliazzo expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the Agreement on the 50th anniversary of the existence of the Community, assessing that the existing friendship with Montenegro was further strengthened today.
