11 September 2018 - There are significant opportunities for cooperation between Albania and Montenegro in the areas of tourism, trade and infrastructure projects, according to the statement made by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System, Milutin Simović, who took part in the meeting with Albanian Deputy Prime Minister.
On September 11, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System, Milutin Simović and Minister of Public Administration Suzana Pribilović had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Senida Mesi, who is in an official visit to Montenegro. On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Simović thanked the Deputy Prime Minister Mesi for the hospitality and good organization of the joint session of the Government of Montenegro and the Government of Albania, held on 3 July this year in Shkodra. Simović stressed the importance of implementing the agreements that were signed during the joint session and expressed the readiness of the Government of Montenegro to exchange experiences in the field of European integration. He also pointed out that there is significant space for cooperation between the two countries in the areas of tourism, trade and infrastructure projects, and stressed that it is particularly important for cross-border projects to jointly use EU funds. Simović assessed that economic cooperation is encouraging, but that in the upcoming period it is necessary to work on its improvement.
Montenegrin DPM also pointed to the importance of the public administration reform and stressed that the key goal in this area is getting an efficient and fiscally sustainable administrative apparatus, which will provide an efficient service for citizens and businesses.
During the meeting, Montenegrin representatives made a suggestion that a meeting of the committees for water management cooperation should be held as soon as possible, on which common issues regarding the Skadar Lake and the Bojana River would be key themes.
Vice President Mesi emphasized that Montenegro, in the process of public administration reform, thanks to the achieved results, received praise from the EU. In this context, she emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation in this, but also in other areas of interest for citizens of our countries, especially in the process of European integration, bearing in mind the experience and progress achieved by Montenegro.
At the meeting, it was estimated that in the upcoming period it is necessary to intensify cooperation on projects related to joint management of natural resources and to use funds available for these purposes. The meeting was organized with the aim of improving relations and strengthening cooperation in the field of public administration reform.
