04 September 2018 - Bar Municipality should become the base and the headquarters of the Navy of the Army of Montenegro in its full capacity, and it is planned that quality and open cooperation should lead to long-term valorisation of valuable real estate properties, said the Defence Minister Predrag Bošković during a meeting with the President of the Municipality of Bar Dušan Raičević.
Defence Minister Predrag Bošković and the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Dragutin Dakić, visited the Municipality of Bar and its President Dušan Raičević on September 4th.
During the visit, Bošković, Dakić and Raičević discussed the possibilities of improving cooperation between the Army of Montenegro and the Municipality of Bar. The aim of the meeting was determining the possibilities of the adequate positioning of the Montenegrin Navy in accordance with the adopted strategic documents of the Government of Montenegro and the needs of our country. Minister Bošković pointed out that Bar has a significant number of real estate properties that the Army is currently using in this coastal municipality, which could be more rationally and more efficiently valorised in accordance with the interests of the Municipality and the State.
Bošković highlighted that Bar should be the base and headquarters of the Montenegrin Navy, and that worthy real estate properties in this municipality can be valorised long-term, based on good and open cooperation and mutual benefits.
The Minister especially emphasized the Crni Rt area, which should be used for this purpose, and that the Municipality should assist in the construction of the access road. Also, Dakić and Raičević spoke discussed the military economy, which will be valorised exclusively through resolving housing issues of the members of the Army. Bošković added that the valorisation of the area where the barracks "Pero Ćetkovic" are located, which surface far exceeds the needs of the Army, is of great importance. It was agreed that the Bar Municipality and the Ministry of Defence will utilize the opportunities provided by the barracks.
As stated in the report, the meeting on September 4th marked the start of the project of valorising the Navy of the Army of Montenegro in a way that will guarantee much greater efficiency and better use of resources, as well as the funds that the state opts for its financing, while raising combat readiness to a much higher level.
Raičević expressed the readiness of the Municipality to be a constructive interlocutor on all issues concerning common interests. He said that the Navy of the Army of Montenegro is very important for this coastal municipality, but also that Bar has contributed to Montenegro's membership in NATO because it has always been a great host for many NATO ships visiting the port.
After the meeting, Bosković and his associates visited the Volujica Hill, Popovića Poljana, barracks in Bar, as well as the military facility at Crni Rt.
