"Please note that 'Trident Juncture 18' is one of the most significant and largest NATO exercises organized over the last few years, with around 40,000 participants from over 30-member states of the Alliance and partner countries," said the Ministry of Defense to “Vijesti”.
"Trident Juncture 18" will be held in late October and early November in Norway. This exercise will have a scenario from Article 5 (collective defense) and will be performed under the command of the Joint Forces Commander in Naples, Admiral James Fogo. Article 5 implies that in the event of an attack on one member, all other members are to provide assistance. The Alliance announced earlier that they have notified the members of the OSCE about this event, adding that Moscow was informed about it at the last NATO-Russia Council meeting.
"We are devoted to defense and deterrence. This is the subject of this exercise: training to defend ourselves and creating a deterrent effect, ready to respond to any threat at any time from any direction," Fogo explained. Fogo stayed in Montenegro at the end of May. The ministry said the soldiers had been to Norway earlier this year, where in May they were given the chance to apply their skills and knowledge during the exercise “Trident Jaguar”.
Montenegro became a full member of NATO in June last year. VCG members are already participating in the mission in Afghanistan and are expected to participate in missions in Kosovo and Latvia and intend to participate in the mission in Iraq as well. Participating in NATO missions and exercises, Montenegro, as part of the collective security system, contributes to the preservation of peace and stability both of the Euro Atlantic community and beyond its borders as well," said the Ministry of Predrag Boškovic
