11 August 2018 - Prime Minister Duško Marković will pay an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on Friday, 17 August, at the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The first official visit of Prime Minister Marković to Germany will be an opportunity to exchange views with Chancellor Merkel on bilateral relations and economic exchange between Montenegro and Germany, the economic cooperation of the countries of the Western Balkans, especially within the framework of the Berlin Process as well as European integration of Montenegro.
Prime Minister Marković and Chancellor Merkel spoke in Trieste at the Summit of the Western Balkans in July 2017 and in May 2018 in Sofia at the EU – Western Balkans Summit.
At these two meetings, officials discussed a variety of topics regarding security, migration and political issues concerning the Western Balkans region. By this opportunity, Marković also informed Chancellor Merkel about the successful implementation of the fiscal consolidation measures, voicing his commitment to improving political relations by opening the Government's door to the certain opposition political parties once political conditions for that step are created. We recall that during the meeting in July 2017, German Chancellor Merkel noted that the fact that Montenegro is a small country can be an advantage in conducting the reform process and she particularly emphasised the need for making progress in the rule of law and reform of the judiciary.
"This is the moment when we need more money, but more capacity as well. The Government is set to tackle these challenges quickly and efficiently. Ensuring freedom of the media and protecting journalists are fundamental values. We will do our best to achieve this," concluded Prime Minister Duško Marković at the meeting which took place in Sofia in May 2018.
