June 10, 2018 - The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro held a workshop within the project “Support to the Development of Policies for Efficient Use of Resources” from June 5 to 7.
This project was implemented on the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Podgorica, under the guidance of the International Development Cooperation Program, which aims at the cooperation between the Republic of Slovenia and Montenegro. Also, one of the main goals of this project is for Slovenia to help and support Montenegro on its path to become a member of European Union.
Esef Husic, General Director for Climate Change and Mediterranean Affair at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism together with Alesa Sovinc, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Montenegro and Andreja Donlicar Jera, Programming Director of the Center for European Enterprise of the Republic of Slovenia addressed the participants in the opening word. The educational and interactive part of the workshop was led by Marjana Dermelj from the Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy and Alenka Burja, Green Public Procurement Expert.
Participants of the workshop, which mainly were representatives of the public administration of Montenegro, learned about the trends of the European Union and the experiences of the Republic of Slovenia in this field of strategic planning, efficient use of natural resources, circular economy and green public procurement through interactive three-day sessions.
By doing this, the Republic of Slovenia provided necessary support to Montenegro in efforts to achieve one of the national strategic goals related to reducing the gap between the consumption of natural resources of Montenegro and the average consumption of resources in the European Union, to make the Montenegrin economy greener and more competitive and reach target values of the European 2020 Agenda.
The recommendation from the workshop is to identify the needs of the ministries of Montenegro in the areas of resource efficiency, circular economy and green public procurement and that Slovenia, based on this data, defines further possible support to Montenegro on its way of integration towards European Union.
