“Remember how loudly they announced the end of the DPS policy at the presidential election, and they were defeated harshly at the same elections - in the first round six of them managed to collect 46 percent, and myself, thanks to the DPS policy and other parties that supported me, 54 percent. Today, all I can read in their campaign is how they will defeat DPS again on May 27th. The only thing that comes to my mind when I read and listen to these statements is that the one who said that 'the hope dies last' was right, and in this case, the illusion is the last to die because there are apparent unrealistic hopes of our political competition, which absolutely does nothing to improve their capabilities so that they can be more opposed to us. They remind DPS and me, that, after all the victories we achieved, we should withdraw from the political scene and do not think of what they should do after being the opposition with the longest tradition of defeats in Europe. In the last 30 years they did not record any political success," Djukanovic said in the poll list "For the Welfare of the Citizens in Savnik - Victory! Coalition of DPS-SD Milo Djukanovic" in Savnik.
Djukanovic added that Savnik has a much better development platform than he four years ago and said that this means that the local administration has done a good job over the past period. The President of DPS also added that he considers Savnik a strong supporter of the democratic development in Montenegro. Djukanovic expressed his thanks to the citizens of Savnik for the consistent and sustained support to the overall DPS policy, as well as the support during the recent presidential elections where Djukanovic won in the first round with 54 percent of votes.
He said that these presidential elections were more than the election of a certain person to the function of the state’s president, but that it was a test for the entire system of values that has been painstakingly constructed during the last 20 years since Montenegro decided to move on the European path through the renewal of state independence, up to NATO membership and nearly EU membership.
"What is perhaps more important than all this is the fact that Montenegro has experienced serious economic development during that period, and today is the most developed economy of the Western Balkans. This is the result of a serious policy led by the Democratic Party of Socialists," Djukanovic said and stressed that the victory in the presidential election rounded off a twenty-year cycle of struggle for the most essential interests of Montenegro.
"Today, when we talk about the state politics, we can say that we believe that in the next five years we will have membership in the European Union, but I want to repeat - no date for membership in this or other organizations is our obsession. Our primary goal is to live better here. Based on our resources and our unused natural resources, garnished with the intelligence and good education of the people living in Montenegro, we can have the European quality of life," said Djukanovic. He is convinced that in Savnik, there are all the conditions for DPS to confirm the victory both from the previous local elections and from the last presidential elections because a lot was done in Savnik and today, everybody is coming to this town and not leaving.
"Today, in Savnik, we are considering how to utilize energy potential, the potential for food production, further development of water businesses, how to utilize tourism potential and how it is possible to link it all together, and what we need to do to further develop the necessary facilities for life in this town. From communicating with you, I know that you really appreciate what the government has done in the previous period, headed by Mijo Vujacic, and I think it is a result that cannot be denied. We can think politically different, we can conflict, but we cannot be self-deceived, we cannot falsify what the unquestionable facts are. Today, Savnik is much better and more developed than it was before," Djukanovic said. Djukanovic also said that he would be happy to further affirm and promote the European development policy in Montenegro.
"I am convinced that neither Montenegro nor other Balkan states, have another path than the European one and that this is the way we return to our European home, from which, unfortunately, we have been out of for too long. Today, as citizens of Montenegro, we are proud that little Montenegro is ahead to other Western-Balkan countries on the way to the European development. I will continue to do what I did in the past year and a half as the party’s president, and from next Monday as the president of the country, contribute to the further strengthening of this developmental potential of Montenegro, to contribute with my actions that Montenegro develops even faster economically and democratically, and that we can stand next to the most advanced European countries as quickly as possible. I am convinced that Montenegro deserves such a future, and this future should not only belong to the generation of our offspring but for us to live ourselves. If we are smart and responsible, if we wisely and responsibly sustainably use our resources, I am convinced that the European quality of life we are pursuing is not far away," Djukanovic concluded.
