16 December 2018 - Žabljak must have more hotels with a lot of accommodation capacities, and the winter tourist season must begin earlier. This is the goal that the state, in cooperation with the municipalities and the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro must achieve, as announced by the director of the National Tourism Organization Željka Radak Kukavičić. While the authorities solve problems in the north, fans of snow and skiing do not waste time as they are enjoying ski trails. The problem is the lack of hotels with more significant capacities.

As one of the leading tourist centers, Žabljak has to respond to organized visits by numerous tourists from the region and the world, says Radak Kukavičić.

"We must make sure that Žabljak has a hotel that can accommodate 200 guests," she told reporters, opening this year's winter tourist season on Žabljak.

President of the Municipality of Žabljak Veselin Vukićević says that the plan is to open the hotel "Durmitor" in the next two years, which will satisfy such demands of tourists. Snow has significantly covered Savin Kuk, and it came in the right time since many skiers and tourists arrived in the past couple of days.

"We are aware that it is necessary to solve the issue of additional snow coverage in Žabljak. If there is no snow, there is often no tourists," Kukavičić said.

"Savin Kuk has got snow cannon for artificial snow, and the capital project that we are expecting next year will solve the problem, which is also an introduction for the next winter season. The tender for artificial snow cannons will be announced by the end of the year," said Vukićević.

He also added that the municipality is investing significant funds for improving the tourist season and infrastructure.

"Apart from quality, the variety of tourist offer is something that we need to work on more intensely. I want to appeal to winter tourist centers to ensure a comfortable arrival for citizens and tourists. The road safety must be a priority," said the director of the NTO.

Prices on Savin kuk are at the last year's level:

  • Daily Ski-Pass for adults - 11 EUR
  • Daily Ski-Pass for children - 8 EUR
  • Night Ski-Pass - 6 EUR
  • Season Ski-Pass - 150 EUR
  • Season Ski-Pass for Žabljak residents - 100 EUR

The National Tourism Organization organized free transportation, food and beverage tasting, and entertainment activities this weekend at Žabljak, and Kolašin, as they announced, is scheduled to be scheduled for the next weekend.

Decembar 16, 2018 - Vjeverica Mountain Club from Kotor has used a sunny and pleasant winter day to plan and make an excellent hiking tour of Peluzica in Kotor to the pine forest on the plateau of the low mountain of Vrmac, where the fortress of the same name is located. Vrmac is just a perfect destination for the not so well trained hikers since most of its path is easy to follow. Most of the time participants are able to fully enjoy the spectacular views of Kotor and Tivat bays and the mountain of Lovćen, as well as the open sea perspective over the Luštica peninsula and great views on the slopes of Orjen mountain. A perfect couple of hours of sunbathing today was joined by hikers from across the Boka Bay.

vrmac 14

A dozen hikers, members of the Vjeverica (Squirrel) club and people who responded to a public invitation to enjoy the hinterland of Boka Bay joined the expert Vjeverica guide, Marjan Šantić. Among them was Elaine, an Australian who has been living in Kotor for two years, and has spent more than a year enjoying excursions with the Squirrel and his experienced guides.

Divided between the Kotor and Tivat municipalities, Vrmac has great the beauty of nature, as well as the architectural masterpiece of mankind; the traces of the existence in this area can be read from the pre-Illyrian times.

vrmac 41
Vrmac is a low mountain of marvelous morphology, extending from southeast to northwest. The slopes with dry junctions that are steeply descended into the UNESCO's Kotor, which has come to the World Heritage List thanks also to these sculptures that nature made in the stone. Just across this landscape, Franc Josef built one of the roads, which by the system of serpentines succeed in overcoming the unbelievable slope of mountains above Kotor. The route was created when it was primarily used for the supplying of Fort of Vrmac. It was 5 km long and led to the sea at Peluzica. One part of the trail now leads through the Novo Naselje built in Kotor after the Great Earthquake in 1979. It is a disadvantage that this path is not entirely preserved, but the remaining four kilometers will appeal to every hiker who decides on a light tour accessible regardless of the physical readiness of the pedestrians. The unique atmosphere made the fact that we walked to meet the sun's heat, as we headed from Kotor in the deep shadows. We rushed and caught the sun at least half an hour earlier than the ancient city of Kotor.

The Austro-Hungarian fortifications and the network of roads on Vrmac, although left behind, are resisting. Fascinating is the skill of the builder, as well as the perfection of processing stone from which Peluzica-Vrmac road was built. As with the rest of the infrastructure and buildings constructed by Austro-Hungarians, Austria has provided Montenegro with the notice that, at the end of a hundred years, it has ceased to be a guarantee for all segments of the Fortress of Boka Bay, a fortification system of over 50 fortresses connected by roads. Serpentines mostly resist the tooth of time, but in many places, it is evident that this valuable monument of culture deserves adequate treatment and protection, as one of the segments of the cultural landscape of the UNESCO area of Kotor.

Vrmac is a favorite destination of numerous citizens of Boka Bay, but also tourists and people who have been in Boka recently. Among them is Elaine from Australia, who found her new home in Kotor.

"I love Vrmac, this is not my first time here," explains Elaine, who has been living in Kotor for two years now. "I sailed in on a sailing boat and fell in love with the Bay of Kotor. So, I decided to buy an apartment in the Old Town of Kotor."

Elaine had been working on board a sailing boat for 11 years, and she was pleased with her decision to make Kotor her new home. "Now I'm a private chef, I'm land based only, I quit sailing. I love having a normal life and freedom, what I really find here. I love the Bay and every time I look at it from some other perspective, I know I made the right decision to buy a property here. I like the freedom, safety, and beauty."

When it comes to socializing with local people, Elaine suggests: "You have to make what you can of it, so you have to be outgoing and join groups. You may not understand what's going on, but just be part of what you can, enjoying NGOs and hiking groups and any social group you can."

Elaine loves Squirrel and has spent time with them for more than a year. "We go to some amazing places. I'm so happy that I get to share it with this group of like-minded people. Also, if I have anyone coming to visit me at my apartment, I always recommend hiking or at least to join the hiking group to get the most of their stay here. I suggest they get out and about to see the beauty."

Elaine today enjoyed beautiful vistas along the serpentine's path. Also, she joined the rest of the group at the end of the road, enjoying the top of the cliff that offers a fantastic view of Kotor.

From here through the woods, the main Vrmac road, connecting Trojica and Gornja Lastva, is an extraordinary engineering work which, through the art of masonry, as opposed to time to this day. Information is provided, if you decide to continue walking around Vrmac, the paths are well marked, and from the main road, from Vrmac, you can quickly get to all the upper villages as well as to the coast.

The Vjeverica team has not announced the destination and the term of new hiking tours. Tour dates usually are on the weekends, so further action depends on the weather. Activities are regularly reported on the Vjeverica Facebook page.

December 15, 2018 - The New Year mood slowly catches everything around us, as well as the well-known sculptor and sailor of Boka Bay, Goran Moškov Gonzo. Preparations for the Children's New Year in Kotor are underway, and without Gonzo, it just cannot pass. As an associate of one of the organizers of the program, the NGO Karampana, Gonzo participates in the design and creation of the story to be given to the youngest citizens and visitors of Kotor within the Children's New Year, this city is being organized for a few years.

Winter for Gonzo is certainly a period of intense creativity, because he has adapted his life to a brilliant way of sailing and absorbing the energy of the sun and the sea during the summer months, in order to dedicate the winter to art in various ways. Participation in the creation of the Children's New Year is among his regular anual activities.

"December is a time of joy and creativity. And I got involved in the children's joy. Preparations for the Children's New Year are underway. Kotor as a city of children is increasing and more and more dedicated to the youngest. That's how I'm going through the whole month. Because, when it comes to doing, we are investing not only work but also leisure time to be ready in time and for the joy of the children," says TMN Gonzo, who is also Kotor's Santa Claus.

"For several years, I have the honor of being Kotor's Santa Claus. This does not only involve participation in the central ceremony and accompanying programs for the children we organize, but also the humanitarian program designed by the Kotor Tourism Organization and NGO Karampana under the auspices of Luštica Bay Company. This is a visit to the Children's and Neonatal Department of the General Hospital in Kotor and the distribution of new-year packages and gifts for newly born babies.

Children already know that in Kotor we prepare gifts for all children. But here we are especially careful and devoted, and thanks to the sponsorship of Luštica Bay, we can provide special gifts for children who will, unfortunately, spend New Year Eve out of their homes, without their families. The most beautiful times of the year they are alone, and they deserve to be treated specially. We have an entertaining program, and we go from one hospital room to another, carrying an electric sleigh, which we did a few years ago for this purpose. We have a guitar, we sing with children, we joke. To them, that means a lot," says Gonzo, Kotor's Santa Claus.

childrens new year hospital

And in the streets of Kotor, visitors to the Children's New Year expect surprises. "The Municipality of Herceg Novi is going to lend us a city train, so children will have the opportunity to be in the company of Santa Claus driving the city streets. As always, it will be a lot of fun, with enough surprises. And for the central manifestation of the Children's New Year's we have created some new, fun and educational concepts," Gonzo announced with the laugh of Santa Claus.

"We will make a nice story that will be both educational and entertaining. In addition to what the kids are most interested in, and that is the arrival of Santa Claus and sharing gifts. So, this is a call for all children and their parents- come and join us on 30 December at 6pm on the Square of Arms to meet the Children's New Year in Kotor," said Gonzo.

Knowing what surprises Gonzo and his friends made in previous years, there is no reason to suspect that for this Children's New Year they are also organizing a spectacle. The greatest of all was the giant Santa Claus, who was waiting for the children in front of the main city gates, almost surmounting the walls of the Old Town.

childrens new year 3

"This was a brilliant project of the Kotor's Festival of Children's Theater and its director Petar Pejakovic. The theater production made that giant doll within the framework of a completely different story, the children's play Guliver, and we realized that we also could use it to provide the children in Kotor to receive the greatest Santa Claus they saw. It lasted for days until we modified the doll, and then children enjoyed it for days. It was worth it. For the last two years we have been inside the city walls, Kotor is organizing a New Year's program at the Square of Arms, so we have the Children's New Year on the same stage."

The New Year's program in Kotor- Rock New Year, as well as the program of the Children's New Year, primarily meet the mood and taste of Kotor's citizens. This is a good recommendation for all its guests. The town's waterfront is dressed in festive clothes and the decorations of the Old Town began a few days ago.

In just a few days, the event "From Christmas to Christmas" begins, within which the Kotor Municipality, Cultural Center Nikola Đurković, Kotor Tourism Organization and local NGOs prepare a diverse artistic, entertaining, gastronomic and tourist program. "From Christmas to Christmas" begins on 23 December and lasts until 9 January.
