23 September 2018 - After the success of 2017 and record-breaking visitor numbers, Montenegro is celebrating further growth this year in its tourism industry. The number of tourists to Montenegro in 2018 rose by 45%, and the largest share of these tourists hailed from the Western and Northern Europe, as noted by the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro in an interview with Pobjeda, adding that they have been quite satisfied with this year’s season.
According to the latest data from the local tourism organizations, a total of 67,000 tourists are currently visiting Montenegro, which is 11% higher compared to the same period last year.
Aleksandra Maksimović of the NTO said the largest share of tourists hailed from Serbia, Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain and Sweden.
“When it comes to visits from Europe, the number of Germans visiting ME increased by 66%, and as for the overseas visits, the Chinese travelers made up a stunning total of 55% visits followed by the US and Israeli tourists.”
Maksimović underlined that this year’s summer season was preceded by a record-breaking pre-season when Montenegro saw a double-digit growth in tourist arrivals and revenues.
She said: “According to data of MONSTAT, approximately 609,000 tourists visited Montenegro in the first half of 2018 which is about 18% higher compared to a record-breaking 2017, and the number of overnight tourists reached nearly 3 million, representing an increase of about 8%.”
