27 July, 2018 - The exhibition "ΣYNÉXEIA - CONTINUUM - DURATION", dedicated to archaeological research in Risan, was opened on the July 26th at the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro.

The exhibition was opened by Aleksandar Dajković, General Director of the Cultural Heritage Directorate, who said: "Archaeological research in Risan, within the framework of the international project "Risinium – Royal Capital of Queen Teuta", started in 2001 in cooperation with the Regional Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Kotor, the current Centre for Conservation and Archeology of Montenegro, and the University of Warsaw. The uncovered immovable and movable findings so far testify to the exceptional importance of this site and provide valuable data for understanding the beginnings and development of social life in this area. This project, as a good example of international cooperation, provided new insights relevant to the adequate valorisation of the sites in Risan, pointing to the necessity of carrying out further activities, which, in addition to the conservation treatment of findings, imply scientific processing as well as the application of modern trends for the protection and management of this segment of the immobile cultural heritage of Montenegro".

The author of the exhibition, Dejan Gazivoda, presented a part of the cultural heritage that was found thanks to systematic archaeological researches carried out for almost two decades through the international project “Risinium – Royal Capital of Queen Teuta”, organized by the Centre for Conservation and Archeology of Montenegro and the University of Warsaw, funded by the Ministry of Culture and the University of Warsaw.

"Risan presents an inexhaustible treasure of immobile and movable cultural heritage that must be presented and tourism valorised in the right way. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture, archaeological research has lasted for many years and we hope that the architectural remains of the Customs will be presented in the form of an archaeological park after proper treatment; consideration should be given to establishing a scientific research center with a museum unit in which the movable fund will be adequately presented, the expert team will be able to fully devote itself to researching the best preserved Illyrian settlement in Montenegro," concluded Gazivoda.
