June 14, 2018 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Srdjan Darmanovic, officially visited Georgia for the first time, by the invitation of Mikheil Janelidze, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. During his stay in Georgia, Minister Darmanovic took an opportunity and opened the Consulate of Montenegro in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. By this occasion, he expressed belief that the opening of the Consulate will contribute to the promotion of overall cooperation between the two countries.

He also said that his visit to Georgia is particularly significant in the context of further strengthening traditionally friendly relations and improving the political dialogue of the two countries.

“Montenegro, as a fully-fledged member of the Alliance, advocates the continuation of NATO’s open-door policy and, in this regard, supports Georgia’s aspirations. Montenegro will continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders,” stressed Darmanovic.

Deputy Prime Minister Janelidze noted that Montenegro's membership in NATO was a positive signal for Georgia and that it sent a clear message of the readiness of the organization to accept new members. He also expressed interest in exchanging experiences in European integration, recalling that Montenegro is the leader in this process.

These two representatives agreed that the state’s commitment to the Euro-Atlantic system of values is important for strengthening the stability and security of each state and region it belongs to. In conclusion, enough space was left for improving cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism, agriculture, and transport, while Darmanovic and Janelidze expressed strong interest for organizing bilateral consultations in the following period.
