At the recently closed 68th International Wine Contest in Slovenia, “Vino Ljubljana 2018”, which was held from April 13-15th in Ljubljana, one of the most reputable companies in Montenegro, “13 Jul – Plantaže”, won essential medals.
The company Plantaže is a healthy Montenegrin enterprise with a tradition of over half a century. This successful company’s principal activities are the production of grapes, growing, wine making, olive oil production, cellar management, and restaurant management. Plantaže’s wines are recognizable as a reflection of Montenegrin culture.
Plantaže owns a one of a kind vineyard which covers a remarkable 2.310ha surface. The company produces around forty different types of wine and four types of grape brandies, made of twenty-six wine grape varieties.
Plantaže has one of the most impressive export statistics in Montenegro: the enterprise annually sells over seventeen million bottles of wine to thirty-five different countries in the world. Considering that import overpowers Montenegro's export, Plantaže is a company that significantly affects the country’s gross national product.
After all their hard work in wine production over the years, the representatives of nineteen different countries meet in Ljubljana to have their products and efforts evaluated.
“Vino Ljubljana”, which has been held since 1955, is one of the oldest wine evaluation competitions in the world. Each year, following the tradition, the contest grants awards for the following aspects of wine quality: World Champion, Slovene Champion, Champion of the Wine-Growing District, Slovene Champion of an Individual Sort. It also awards several trophies: Vinofed, Tsukamoto and Akos Asvany, Winner of Slovene Wine Curiosities, Great Gold Medal and Great Silver Medal. The contest organization is highly reputable: the event is recognized professionally, is welcoming and friendly with a a significant environment and excellent conditions.
At the 68th wine tasting, many different wine labels from all over the world were presented to highly qualified judges. The international jury was composed of oenologists, sommeliers, wine journalists, winemakers, professional wine traders, wine experts and restaurateurs from Italy, Germany, Argentina, Austria, and more. This year’s judges commented that their job, which refers to evaluating and selecting the best wines, was especially challenging due to the great number of excellent quality wines they tasted.
The brightest awards for the Montenegrin company at this prestigious global wine event were the Stari Podrum Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 – National Champion and Gold Medal, Vranac Reserve 2011 – Gold Medal, Malvazija 2016 – Gold Medal, Premijer 2009 – Gold Medal, Vladika 2013 – Gold Medal and Epoha 2012 – Gold Medal.
Plantaže’s impressive results were positively encouraged by the excellent impressions from Wine Salon Montevino 2018, a wine tasting event held at The Crystal Hall of the hotel Hilton in Podgorica. The visitors summarized their experience by saying that they were enchanted by the Epoha 2012, and intrigued by the Stari Podrum Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012, wishing that Plantaže keeps making such amazing and compelling wines in the future.
The Montenegrin tradition of winemaking is 1,000 years old, and boasts authentic products which reflect Montenegrin culture - it has borne fruit through continuous results presented by the whole enterprise the “13 Jul – Plantaže“ is and its numerous medals and accomplishments.
