October 21, 2018 - The Center for Investigative Reporting in Montenegro (CIN-CG) and the Association of Architects of Kana / Ko Ako Ne Arhitekt (Who if not the Architect) isorganizing a public panel discussion ”Planning Against the City” to be held in Podgorica on Tuesday, October 23rd.

The discussion “Planning Against the City”, which is being realized within the project "Our PLAC" will be held in the hall of the City Library, Ivan Vujošević street no. 27, Podgorica, on Tuesday, October 23, at 6pm .

The debate will present the publication "Planning Against the City", as well as other results of the project- analysis of Podgorica's urban plans, with particular reference to the relationship between planning and objects of cultural and natural heritage in the center of the city (facilities around SC Morača, RZUP, Pobjeda , Kasarna Morača, Njegošev Park and others). The panel will feature representatives of the KANA group as well as the CIN-CG, and will be open to other participants after the introductory speeches, the organizers say.

"Planning the premises in Podgorica is not conducted in accordance with the interests of the largest number of its inhabitants. Only the massive and persistent participation of citizens in the process is now closed and is set to discourage the involvement of the general public who can change things. If public interest and advocacy are absent, public goods will disappear more and more - first the green areas and common spaces, and then other segments related to the economic and social life of the community, which do not bring profit to the privileged.

The biggest responsibility lays on architecture, urbanism and related field specialists, who can provide advice, example, and encouragement to their community. As Badnjevic, Horvat, and Ivanecevic, the authors of the Hotel Ljubović, which has already been destroyed, say: "The voice of architects should not be silent. But the media and the public should not be silenced also. It's important to take part in city planning so that the public interest could have a chance to win," sid KANA, a group of architects associated with the idea of preventing devastation of architectural values in Montenegro.
