20 October 2018 - Montenegro is getting more cheap flights, thanks to budget airline LaudaMotion looking to provide low-cost flight options to and from Montenegro. Since the budget airlines Ryanair and LaudaMotion teamed up, the companies announced that at the beginning of the IATA season, they will open a new line between Stuttgart (Germany) and Podgorica (Montenegro).
Airbus A-319 LaudaMotion Airplanes will fly on this route twice a week - on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting from April 2, 2019. Tickets for the new flights are to go on sale shortly. All services will be maintained until the end of the 2019 summer season in late October.
LaudaMotion, formerly named Amira Air, is an Austrian low-cost airline based in the Concorde Business Park in Schwechat, Austria, near Vienna. The airline was founded in 2004 as Amira Air as a provider of charter flights for executive travel, serving European and international destinations. In early 2016, former Formula One driver Niki Lauda took over Amira Air and renamed the company LaudaMotion, while in 2018, Irish company Ryanair bought 75% of the company.
“With access to the Ryanair fleet and financial resources, LaudaMotion will now grow more rapidly, as it seeks to compete in a market which is dominated by Lufthansa’s high airfares with its Swiss and Austrian subsidiaries,” said Michael O’Leary, chief executive of Ryanair, in an official statement after the transition process.
