The exhibition will be opened by the President of the Red Cross of Kotor, Neđeljko Moškov, the representative of the US embassy in Podgorica, Dragana Tatić and secretary of the Kotor’s Secretariat for Sport, Culture and Social Affairs Jelena Vukasović.
The focus of the exhibition is on photographs of the American Red Cross, which documented the provision of US aid to Montenegro immediately after the First World War.
After introductory speeches, a lecture by the experts on the project, Dr. Nebojša Čagorović and Dr. Slavko Burzanović, is planned. The experts will talk about the action of the American Red Cross.
The action of the American Red Cross was very significant in Montenegro from 1919 to 1922. In addition to humanitarian aid to the population, the American Red Cross opened a hospital in Podgorica and two orphanages with schools in Podgorica and Danilovgrad, an ambulance, a canteen, a dental clinic and sent their doctors and surgeons. This vast activity is photographed and, as a result, today we have the opportunity to have insight into, primarily, the social circumstances of this period through the exhibition that testifies to it.
The event is organized by the Red Cross of Montenegro under the project "Long-term friendship between the United States and Montenegro - the American Red Cross in Montenegro after the First World War", with the support of the US Embassy in Podgorica.
