01 October 2018 - Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković hosted Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić and Director of the Police Veselin Veljović on the occasion of the Day of the Interior.
Congratulating the public holiday to all members of the Police and the Ministry, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the fact that in the first nine months of this year, 72% of the crimes have been solved, pointing out that the excellent results of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police were confirmed by a continuous high level of trust in the police and its work by the citizens.
"This testifies to the fact that there are clearly defined priorities and that the police are committed to their work. And it yields results. I got the information that cooperation and exchange of data with Interpol, Europol and other partnership services are at a high level and that in this context, Montenegro sets an example in the region and beyond," the Prime Minister stressed. He added that it is obvious that the recent personnel changes in the police have resulted in better mobility and efficiency, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office and other state bodies, which have yielded tangible results, especially in the fight against organised crime.
The Prime Minister noted that in the coming period, the key priority of the security system should be tackling organised criminal groups. The meeting concluded that the field of trafficking in human beings is another challenge faced by the institutions. The Government urges the Prosecutor’s Office to make a stronger contribution to the activities of prosecuting perpetrators of these crimes, putting a particular emphasis on organisers of contracted marriage and begging. PM Marković also said that security is a primary task of the police and that it will also introduce certain organisational changes and improvements that should ensure more effective fight against all forms of crime.
It was emphasised that the Government is determined, at the proposal of the Ministry of the Interior, to provide the highest level of material and technical means for the high-quality and efficient operation of all segments of the security system, including improving the material position of employees through resolving housing issues of police officers and their families.
