This trend was resorted to by the defendant and the suspect for various criminal offenses, from those cruelest to severe crimes, and is especially busy with such requests recently.
In August alone, the Court in Kotor ruled on six requests by persons who were being tracked by the media, and who intended to leave the investigative prison with bail. In addition to these six who were in the public eye, there were certainly many more similar requests.
"The bail as a security measure has existed for long in Montenegrin legislation, however, it wasn’t used. Instead, detention was most often proposed and used as a measure of securing the defendant and a relapse of the previous times, although there was often no need for that," said Zoran Vujicic from Civic Alliance.
Vujičić pointed out that we are witnesses of numerous examples that individuals were in custody for a longer period of time in order to be released in the final judicial epilogue. On this basis, millions of euros were paid from the budget.
"If we take this fact into account, the revival of the bail as an institution recently is quite justified," Vujicic said. What he particularly needs to take into account is that these amounts must be as high as possible in order to achieve the purpose of the security and in order for that person to be present at the next stage of the proceedings. Only during August, the court in Kotor decided on the demands for the bails of Ivan Fatović, Emina Adrović, Božidar Filipović, Igor Vukotić, Enisa Šuntić and Sara Vidak.
