This season is significantly better than the previous one, and there are 20 percent more tourists than last year - the NP expects to host more than 12,000 tourists by the end of summer. To show that tourism is growing can be displayed in an example from 2015 when the number of tourists who visited the park was only about 3,000 per year. Ervin Omeragić from the restaurant “Maja Karanfil” confirms that the start of the season was not so good.
"The heavy rainfall at the start of the season resulted in a slightly weaker season than expected. After that there was nice weather, therefore numerous tourists arrived, so we are satisfied," Omeragić said to “Infobiro”.
He states that there were so many guests in August that they were forced to return people to their homes because they did not have any accommodation to offer them.
"Foreigners love our nature and mostly come to hike. They are also coming to visit us with the desire to taste the Montenegrin traditional dishes, such as kacamak and cicvara. There are also Montenegrins from the Diaspora who often come to have lunch with us because they miss the Montenegrin cuisine," says Omeragić.
Unspoiled nature and beautiful views on the massive Prokletije leave tourists breathless. A tourist from Poland points out that he has been in Montenegro for two days and has visited Durmitor, which left a great impression on him.
"You have beautiful mountains, wonderful people. It's very quiet, not too many people. There are plenty of places to walk and all my friends love it here and come with their kids. Montenegro is, however, big. I'll definitely come back here because it's very quiet. People are simple and fun," he said.
German tourists also decided to spend a holiday in Montenegro, and the unavoidable "station" along the coast was also Prokletije.
"We enjoy nature and socializing with the people who live here. We have beautiful mountains in our country also, just like these here, which are perhaps a little nicer than ours. Everything is beautiful here, both the sun and nature," said the tourists from Germany.
Nilson from France points out that they have been on the mountain for a few days.
"We enjoy the time spent here. Many birds, many butterflies, everything is wonderful. Lakes, mountains, caves, as well, and we really have a wonderful companionship. I like that there are not large crowds, and it's nice to go for walks. It's nice to be in the Balkans and in Montenegro," says Nilson. There are also many who camp here and are delighted by the hospitality of the locals.
"We came from Germany to hike and this place is perfect. The people here are so good, accessible, and kind. They provided us with accommodation, a place to sleep and a place to eat. We would like to come here again," said the tourists from Germany.
Lalić believes there would be many more tourists if the infrastructure was improved. He stresses that he hopes to host more people in the next season, thanks to investment in infrastructure, or arranging routes to the Lakes of Hrid and Grebaja.
