July 27, 2018 - Last year, during the Days of Emigrants which was held in Petnjica, there were more than 100 people involved, and according to my estimation, between 800 and 1000. As each manifestation takes time to become popular, this year Gusinje also expects many guests, said the Director of the Diaspora Management Predrag Mitrović.

Days of emigrants is a state event introduced by the Montenegrin Cooperation Law with immigrants, which brings together diasporas from all over the country.

"As the organizer, the Diaspora Management and Gusinje Municipality have announcements from a large number of emigrants who are not from Gusinje but will be there on July 30th to join us and participate in the program we have prepared," Mitrović says.

The Director Management explains that such gatherings are of great importance to our emigrants.

"Firstly, because it is a tradition that we present and nurture in this way, and secondly, because then the people from the diaspora are on vacation at home. Often, although they are interested, our emigrants do not have time to visit state authorities, introduce themselves or get answers to the questions that interest them. Also, the home country doesn't have the opportunity to present the opportunities it has to offer nor the projects it is carrying out, which are focused on the diaspora. That is why such gatherings also enable the spread of networks and acquaintances between the representatives of the organizations of our emigrants worldwide, as well as the opportunity to meet with representatives of the competent state and local authorities and get answers to the questions that interest them, "Mitrović said.

The gatherings, he adds, are also important for younger generations that need to be tied to the home country at an accessible and interesting manner for them, such as schools and social gatherings in nature and cultural and entertaining programs. If we want a strong diaspora, and every country is trying to do that, we need to get to know each other, create a chance to get to know us and the opportunities we offer. It is about the common interest of the home country and all the members of the Diaspora, and hence, I believe, this manifestation has caused so much interest and presence during its first realization," says Mitrović.
