20 July 2018 - The twelfth International Folklore Festival "Cetinje 2018" will be held from 27 to 30 July on the Summer stage in Cetinje, which represents a segment of the program „Summer at The Old Royal Capital“.
This International Folklore Festival, held in Cetinje since 2001, is organized by the Cultural and Artistic Association "Njegoš". During the time of the festival, Cetinje gathers different cultures and represents a host for thousands of participants and guests. The main objective of this festival is to present Montenegrin ethnic dancing, singing and musical treasure, but also to introduce the culture of other nations.
The International folk festival "Cetinje" is a multi-day event that is held in July at the Summer Stage, and is one of the most significant international folklore festivals in the region. It gathers folklore groups from all countries of the former Yugoslavia and several European countries as well, and the opening of the festival is celebrated with a parade of the participants through the city.
The festival, which is traditionally organized by the Cultural and Artistic Association "Njegoš", with the financial support of the Cetinje Municipality, the Tourist Organization Cetinje and the Montenegrin Ministry of Culture, will bring together about 200 participants from seven European countries. The visitors that come to the Old Royal Capital will have to opportunity to observe the performances of ensembles from Turkey, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Croatia and the host country - Montenegro, who, accompanied by their traditional songs, will present their cultural heritage.
According to the organisers, the aim of the event is cultural education, and encouraging the development of creativity in the folklore, music and choral, theater and other arts. The great importance of this festival is confirmed by the fact that it is a part of the world organization of folklore festivals, which operates under the auspices of UNESCO.
