The XX Scientific Committee (SAC) of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) was held in Morocco, in Tangier, from June 26 to 29 in the presence of 23 member delegations.
The delegation of Montenegro was Slavica Pavlović, Director of the Directorate for Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Aleksandar Joksimović, Scientific Adviser to the University of Montenegro - Institute for Marine Biology and Milica Divanović, Advisor to the Directorate for Fisheries.
The Scientific Committee discussed the state of the Mediterranean and Black Sea fisheries resources as well as the measures of sustainable management. Special emphasis is given to the management of small bluefish resources in the Adriatic Sea and the future joint management of these resources by the Adriatic countries.
The election of the president and two Vice Presidents of the GFCM Scientific Committee was also held at this year's summit.
At the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Montenegro, Dr. Aleksandar Joksimović was elected by the delegates of the Scientific Committee of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM-SAC) for the next four-year term. This is a great honor and trust in Montenegro, as well as respect for the efforts made by Montenegrin fisheries to comply with all the recommendations of the GFCM. It is, therefore, an additional responsibility and obligation to continue with further work on joint management and sustainable use of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea resources.
