June 20, 2018 - Construction works on the implementation of energy efficiency measures at the Gymnasium "Slobodan Škerović" and the Podgorica Center for Children and Youth, worth 1.7 million EUR, started at the end of May and will last until the end of September 2018.

The representatives from the Montenegrin Ministry of Economy explained the plan of the construction works: “The works that will be implemented in the aforementioned period on these facilities relate to replacing roof coverings by installing thermal insulation, installing thermal insulation on the facade, facade repair, replacing facade hardware, improving the heating system or installing new systems, replacing scanners, sanitation of sanitary knots and similar works. Upon completion of the construction process, the optimization of electricity consumption in the facilities will be optimized, the level of comfort will be improved and the conditions for the stay and work of the users improved. In addition to these, in 2018, another 3 facilities in Montenegro are planned to be reconstructed: “Koman Bridge” in Podgorica, Elementary School "Aleksa Bećo Đilas" and SMŠ "Vuksan Đukic" in Mojkovac.”

According to reports, in April 2018, the Ministry of Economy signed contracts for the execution of works on the implementation of energy efficiency measures in three educational institutions with a total value of 2,8 million EUR: High School "Slobodan Škerović", Resource Center for Children and Youth "Podgorica" and Resource Center for Education and Training "June 1st". Energy reconstruction of all three facilities is being carried out within the framework of the "Energy Efficiency Program in Public Buildings - Phases I and II", which the Ministry of Economy has implemented since 2012 in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and the Property Directorate. For the implementation of the program, funds from the KfW bank loan in the amount of 31,5 million EUR were provided and significant donations have also been collected, amounting to 4,68 million EUR.

The Montenegrin Ministry of Economy highlighted that so far, the Program has included the implementation of energy efficiency measures in 28 educational institutions, with the total value of invested funds amounting to 20,9 million EUR.
