June 08, 2018 - On Thursday, June 7th, 2018, starting at 8:00 pm in the Center for Contemporary Art of Montenegro (Montenegrin: “Centar savremene umjetnosti Crne Gore”), an exhibition of the artist Mirza Dedić opened at the gallery "Perjanički dom" under the title "Event" (Montenegrin: “Događaj“).
According to the review of the exhibition, which was presented for the first time in 2017, Dedać wrote: "... On 27th January, 1982, Zagreb's "Vjesnik" released the 15th comic book number ALAN FORD, entitled "Criminal & Comp." This jubilee episode was published on a slightly smaller number of parties in the territory of Yugoslavia. This was the decision of the censors back then who estimated that a part of the comics should be thrown out ... This "controversial" and omitted strip gag, as well as the mentioned censorship event in art, was the basic starting point for the first thoughts about the exhibition itself and art in general. Who promotes them, and who prohibits them? About those who select and those who realize them. What is it about a regime that disturbs one person while making others indifferent? What is art when it is in the service of government and what is it when it is banned and forbidden?"
“The censorship begins when city munitions, permanent characters of the comic “Criminal & Comp.” and other members of the government open an exhibition with a public speech in one of the city's galleries, while in the first ranks of visitors are the leading figures of the Second World War. Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and others give their comments on the exhibition, and without reluctance talk about political attitudes and beliefs. This example of censorship is used only as a comment; the new narrative is a reflection on a segment of censorship history that encourages critical thinking about the relationships between artists, curators, exhibitors, and cultural policy in general. The consistency of Mirza's quotation of out-of-the-box stripes of historical data is a kind of subversive shield, a critique of adaptability and a fearless shadow of artistic alertness,” it is stated in the main explanation of the exhibition.
Mirza Dedać was born in 1981 in Belgrade, Serbia. In 2009, he entered the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Arts in Belgrade, Department of Painting. He completed his basic academic studies in the class of Professor Čedomir Vasić and master of academic studies in the class of professor Mileta Prodanović. He is currently on Ph.D. studies at the same faculty. He won the Prize for Drawing "Stevan Knežević" at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He has previously exhibited himself at six exhibitions as well as at numerous group exhibitions.
The exhibition opened on June 7th, 2018, and after the opening, the audience was invited to converse about the pieces and the impressions with the artist himself. The exhibition in the gallery "Perjanički dom" can be seen until June 30th, 2018.
