May 27, 2018 - The town of Pljevlja received its first modern-equipped Culture Centre that has a purpose to serve as a multimedia object, featuring a theatre, cinema, concert hall and speech capabilities. In his statement to the media, after the opening of the reconstructed Culture Centre in Pljevlja, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic, pointed out that this is one of the most impressive objects of social infrastructure in Montenegro, possibly even in the region.
"I believe that the time we've waited for this, since it lasted about ten years, was justified, and today we have a lasting value for the city of Pljevlja, for the citizens of Pljevlja, for artists, for cultural creators, for young people, but we also have a lasting value for Montenegro," the Prime Minister said.
He also expressed his satisfaction, and he mentioned that he believes that Pljevlja will, by making this project work, improve its overall quality, attractiveness, and the town will improve its cultural and overall values. He stated that this Culture Centre stands for a new quality for the citizens of Pljevlja and the city itself.
“Tourism, natural wealth, and the cultural heritage of Pljevlja are now coming to fruition, and as they are gathered around the new Culture Centre, they are creating a new value,” Markovic said.
Mirko Djacic, Mayor of the Municipality of Pljevlja, stated that this is an excellent day for Pljevlja and expressed the belief that the opening of the Cultural Centre, as a significant cultural institution, will improve social life, and provide the first steps in the development of tourism in Pljevlja. He also reviewed the costs of the reconstruction which is estimated at 5 million EUR, while the works of the final stage were as high as 1.03 million EUR.
A present journalist took the opportunity to ask the Prime Minister about the special police teams that have been formed and whether Prime Minister Markovic thinks it's time to reconsider the introduction of new measures to ensure citizens’ safety at a higher level. The Prime Minister answered by saying that the government will do everything to ensure that the citizens are safe.
“I want to make it clear that the state is facing crime no matter what criminal groups are involved, whether they are criminal groups from Montenegro or the region, or America or Europe. They now have a problem with the state and the state will solve this problem by using all available means that belong to a democratic society so that it remains safe and secure,” said Markovic.
The journalist also asked him whether the funds for fighting organised crime would come from foreign services or not and the Prime Minister stated that the instigators of liquidation in Montenegro are abroad and that they will ask the European partners to cooperate because this is not only domestic, but a wider problem.
