What’s in season
Beans are a favorite ingredient in Balkan cuisine. All kinds of beans, including peas, are widely used for stews and soups by local homemakers. The famous pasulj – a thick, red kidney beans stew cooked with smoked ribs or homemade sausage – is the best winter dinner. But now, at the beginning of the summer season, it’s time for young green and yellow beans. You may even find different sorts of yellow beans like, for example, with violet streaks, but all of them would taste great added to a vegetable ragout of thick beef stew. The green beans are a great appetizer seasoned with olive oil and whatever spices you like, then baked in the oven for 15 minutes. The price for all bean sorts is currently 4 euro per kg.
Attractive and flavorful strawberries are the same price as last week – 2,5 euro per kg.

Young potatoes are easy to cook, and they taste much sweeter. Red potatoes which are recently on the market are best for roasting and even better without the skin peeled - just add some rosemary or thyme. Young green onions look gorgeous as well as local mangold mainly used as a traditional Dalmatian fish garnish with potatoes.
These roughly shaped and light-colored tomatoes cannot be considered local, but brought over from Macedonia, they are unbelievably sweet and juicy and worth a spot in your vegetable basket.
New offer

The first sweet cherries are arriving from Albania, Montenegro's southern neighbor, and though they are still quite expensive (6 euro per kg) they are a perfect delight to surprise your girlfriend or kids.
