The Ministry of Tourism and Sustainable Development stated that this year will be significantly more successful for tourism.

The industrial production in Montenegro in the first two months of this year increased by 40 percent compared to last year. The Ministry of Economy states that the reason for this is because of extremely favorable hydrologic conditions in the performance of hydro power plants, as well the wind power plant Krnovo and Thermal power plant Pljevlja.

“Regarding the results from the beginning of this year, we can say that the increasing trend continued in relation to the number of tourists. In January and February, accommodation collectively saw more than 38.000 tourists, which is a 30 percent increase compared to last year”, said the Ministry of Tourism.

During the first two months, tourists achieved more than 115.000 overnight stays, i.e. 15 percent more than this time last year.

“According to the information received, the high trend also continued in March and April, and we believe that official results will show this”, added the Ministry.

This season expects an increase of tourists from Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Great Britain, Czech Republic, countries of the Benelux and Scandinavia, and also an increased number of flights from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Tivat.

“Besides the regular flights by the Russian airline companies throughout the year, ten Russian airlines announced additional flights to Montenegro during the summer season from May 26th to September 30th. Regarding the German market, the national airline company Montenegro Airlines, besides the existing flights to Frankfurt and Dusseldorf, added new flights from Tivat to Leipzig and Munich. Apart from the regular flights to London and Paris, additional flights to Rome and Lion have been announced”, said the Ministry.

They expect the positive trend to continue from the Netherlands thanks to the offer and charter flights from the most prominent tour operator from this region, TUI Netherlands, which will connect Amsterdam and Tivat with two flights a week from May to October.

This year, as they added, airline connections with Poland are significantly better which is per the interests of guests from this region, making it one of the most important markets for Montenegro.

The Polish national airline company LOT will carry out regular flights from Warsaw to Podgorica, which will result in a higher number of tourists from this market. One of the leading tour operators from Poland, ITAKA, will bring tourists to Montenegro for the first time and announced the arrival of over 8.000 tourists this year.

“We have more flights by low-cost airlines, and Wizz air flies to Memmingen, Milan and Budapest throughout the year, and this year there are also flights to Katowice and Warsaw," stated the Ministry. Ryanair continues to fly to Berlin, London, Brussels and Stockholm and there will be a direct line from the Polish town of Vroclav to Montenegro, while Easy jet will carry out flights from London, Manchester and Genève in the summer. The French low-cost airline Transavia continues with their flights from April to October, connecting Paris and Tivat two times a week. Fly Dubai continues with flights from Dubai to Tivat in the period from March 26th to October 26th. Czech low-cost airline Smart Wings will have seven flights a week from Prague, Brno and Ostrava from June 1st to the second half of September”, continued the Ministry of Tourism.

According to the data by Monstat, the industrial production in February this year marks an increase on all fields, and concerning January, there was an increase of 13,7 percent while February saw an increase of 29,5 percent.

There has been an increase of 27,7 percent in industrial production compared to last year, while the first two months of this year saw an increase of industrial output for 39,3 percent compared to this same time the previous year.

The highest increase was marked in the sector of electrical energy, gas and steam supply which increased 21,9 percent compared to January last year, while February saw an increase of 76,3 percent.

Concerning the average one-month production from last year, this sector saw an increase of 144,3 percent, while the first two months of this year saw an increase of 82,6 percent from last year.

The good results in this sector are caused by several factors such as the incredibly favorable hydrologic condition in the performance of hydro power plants as well as wind power plant Krnovo and Thermal power plant Pljevlja.
