22 August 2018 - There are around 2.473 construction companies in Montenegro, with a total of 10.795 workers, which means that they employ on average 4,3 workers.
According to the data provided by the Montenegrin Statistical Office (MONSTAT), the number of employees in this area ranges from 8 and 10 thousand. Predrag Drecun, an economic analyst, thinks that the reason for the very small number of employees in construction companies is the ever-present outsourcing – handing over jobs to other companies which are specialized for that, and it has become practice.
“Construction companies are becoming investment funds, and they start to behave like the new trends and they outsource things. They want to outsource everything they can so that they don’t have to employ their own staff, reduce costs and generate more income,” says Drecun.
He thinks that the Government or Faculty of Economics should carry out a research about trends of outsourcing and see which companies do outsourcing works.
“We should see if those companies are from Montenegro or from the surroundings. That way we could see how much money outflows from Montenegro, unnecessarily though. We could also form human resources that construction companies need,” says Drecun. He points out that construction will be expanding in the future since there is a lot of undeveloped potential in the south and in the central part of Montenegro.
Owner of “Zetagradnja”, Blagota Radović, said that this company only has engineering staff.
“We have never bought mechanization and we didn’t employ people. During the construction of some facility we conclude contracts with cooperates who have their own workers,” says Radović.
He also said that there are no construction workers in Montenegro but we only employ a workforce from Albania and Kosovo and it’s impossible to create construction staff that fast.
The most famous and probably most successful construction companies in Montenegro include “Zetagardnja”, “Bemax”, “Čelebić”, “Fidija”, “Šajo” , “Normal Company”, “Mojkovački Trudbenik”, “Štrabag”, “Atena bohor” from Budva, “Novi Volvoks”, “Kroling” from Danilovgrad,.
There are not many construction companies with negative earnings, However, “Cijevna komerc” and “Lovćeninvest” are among them.
