The Chamber of Commerce states that it is about the process in which the company addresses all the participants in an ethical and responsible manner. "Socially responsible is considered a company that meets all statutory obligations and is additionally engaged in relation to the employees, environment, community, and partners, and invests in anti-corruption efforts. The well-executed concept of socially responsible business brings benefits to the community as well as a number of advantages for the companies such as improved access to capital and markets, productivity, customer loyalty, increased sales and profit, business savings and better risk management," said PKCG to CdM.
From the 1990s, socially responsible business has played an important role in leading global companies, focusing on self-regulation of businesses in matters of human and labor rights, health, safety, environmental protection, anti-corruption, and voluntary initiatives to support local and larger community projects.
"Since many companies are causing negative environmental and social impacts with their production, they exacerbate the pressures and demands of the social environment that economic entities are responsible for their behavior, which directly affects a better positioning of a company product that shows social responsibility over companies that do not respect the overall social, ethical, ecological and economic value of the decision-making process. Desiring to contribute to the global and national concept of social responsibility the Chamber, since 2008, apart from the annual awards for successful business, has also introduced a reward for social responsibility for improving management and innovation," said PKCG.
One of the activities of the Chamber of Commerce that is related to social responsibility is the participation in the project of Active Citizenship Fund - the award of Iskra prize. "This is an acknowledgment for the philanthropy granted by the Active Citizenship Fund in partnership with the Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce and the Montenegrin Diaspora, with the support of the European Commission, the Foundation "Ćano Koprivica", the Brothers Rockefeller Foundation and the Charles Stuart Mot Foundation. Since 2009, the award has been given to individuals, companies, media, NGOs, institutions and emigrant associations - which have most effectively supported the nonprofit actions for the common good and the creation of the civil society in Montenegro and represents only a part of the social responsibility story, which is often identified with philanthropy," reminded PKCG.
The Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce educates members of their associations on socially responsible business and through seminars on topics such as quality standards, energy efficiency, teamwork and decision-making, EU legislation (Environmental Protection Directive, Product Certification, Technical Standards), and more.
