May 28, 2018 - The Intellectual Property Office is the cornerstone of the intellectual property rights protection system in Montenegro, and they acquired the image of a rational and transparent public administration body, as well as being recognized as efficient civil service and business entities, said Dragica Sekulic, Minister of Economy in Montenegro.
The Montenegrin National Theater in Podgorica was the host of the 10th anniversary of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Montenegro, where the Institute work was presented. The Institute for Intellectual Property of Montenegro proved itself as a reliable partner of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the European Patent Organization and the Institute for Intellectual Property of the European Union.
“Powerful institutions, modern legislation, international cooperation and effective protection of intellectual property rights holders are preconditions for improving the economic development of Montenegro and for achieving and meeting European standards in this area,” Minister Sekulic noted.
She also added that the Ministry of Economy is continuously working on empowering the intellectual property rights protection system in Montenegro, which will, as she said, be understandable and accessible to everyone in Montenegrin society. Minister Sekulic concluded that this type of activity would contribute to further social development and quality of life of citizens.
“Montenegro, as a candidate country for European Union membership, continually works on harmonizing its legal system with obligations arising from Negotiating Chapter VII – Intellectual Property Law, and, according to the European Commission, has reached a good level of readiness in this chapter,” Minister of Economy Sekulic recalled.
Valentina Radulovic-Scepanovic, Director of the Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro reviewed the work of the Institute in the past and concluded that the Institute has built its position as a responsible and reliable partner to citizens, creators and users of intellectual property and all institutions and organizations in the country and abroad that are engaged in the protection and promotion of intellectual rights.
“Implementing modern IT tools and integrating into the databases of international organizations is the pillar of every successful business, without which the work of any modern institution is unthinkable. That is why we have already renewed the cooperation with the European Union Intellectual Property Organization with the focus on the connection to TMView and DesignView from the autumn of last year. The great and mutual satisfaction resulted in a remarkable success,” noted Radulovic-Scepanovic.
As she added, in March this year, the Institute made its database of trademarks available via TMView, while the very same thing was achieved with DesignView in the past few days.
“The Institute has also made a great impact in the process of joining Industrial Property Automation System, a tool granted by World Intellectual Property organization. A complete implementation should be done by the end of 2018,” concluded Radulovic-Scepanovic.
