June 21, 2018 - Chamber of Economy of Montenegro hosted a business forum with Hungary on June 20, 2018, in Podgorica. In the focus of this conference, which gathered more than 50 representatives from the companies that participated, was the improvement of cooperation in the field of information and communication, medical and energy technologies, consulting, as well as the environmental protection and tourism.

The forum was organized in cooperation with Hungarian Chamber of Economy, under the committee of the Western Balkans Chamber of Economy. By this occasion, the Vice President of Montenegrin Chamber of Economy, Ivan Saveljic, said that this is one of the many series of activities aimed at achieving direct business cooperation between the companies of the two countries, implemented in cooperation with the Embassy of Hungary in Montenegro and Montenegrin Embassy in Budapest, as well as with the partner, Chamber of Economy of Hungary.

“Hungarian companies have been particularly interested in the field of environmental protection as well as for the upcoming opening of negotiation chapter 27. There is space for further development of economic relations, which is confirmed by the multisectoral character of today's forum,” said Saveljic.

He pointed out that Hungary is a significant foreign trade partner of Montenegro and that in 2017, it was ranked third in the list of countries in which Montenegro most exported, after Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total trade between Montenegro and Hungary in 2017 was estimated at 52.6 million EUR, which is 3% less than in the previous year. Also, the most imported products from Hungary were pharmaceutical products, electrical machines and equipment, tobacco preparation and processing machines and chipboards.

Attila Galambos, Director of the Chamber of Economy of Hungary said that the organization gathered 87 companies that want to make a breakthrough on the region's market.

“Some of these companies have already taken the first steps in this direction, while some of them are doing that now at this forum. This conference and the many following gatherings will contribute to strengthening cooperation among our companies,” said Galambos and emphasized the role of the Hungarian Embassy in that mission.

He also stressed that the doors of the Committee and Hungarian Chamber of Economy are always open to the companies that may find themselves facing barriers in the development of their business and that they will be devoted to their elimination.

“We have a lot in common with Montenegrin companies and I will support any initiative that is aimed towards the establishment of new business relations among the businesses of our two countries,” concluded Galambos.
